The cameras were rolling when A Place In The Sun star Jasmine Harman watched her world collapse in seconds — her husband Jon suddenly fell ill during filming, clutching his chest before being rushed to hospital.
What began as a joyful renovation of their dream Spanish home turned into a living nightmare.
“He Just Said He Felt Funny…”
The couple had been filming their Channel 4 renovation series in Estepona, Spain, when Jon — just 45 years old — started to feel strange.
“We’d just had lunch,” Jasmine recalls softly. “He said he felt funny and went to lie down. Then he became agitated, said his chest was tightening, and that everything touching him hurt. That’s when I called the ambulance. I knew something was seriously wrong.”
Moments later, Jon was being rushed to hospital — and the cameras captured the terrifying scene as doctors confirmed he’d suffered a heart attack.
A Family History of Heartache
Jon’s health scare hit especially hard because heart problems run deep in his family. His sister, Jo, tragically died at age 40 from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome in 2016.
Now, nine years later, Jon faced his own battle for survival.
“It’s hard not to think about Jo,” Jasmine admits. “It’s the kind of fear that never leaves you. When it happened to Jon, I thought… not again. Please, not again.”
A Wake-Up Call After So Much Loss
Thankfully, Jon is recovering well — but the ordeal has shaken the couple to their core. Jasmine, now 50, says the experience has made her completely rethink her life priorities.
“When you face something like this, it changes you. You stop sweating the small stuff,” she says. “Even though it was a heart attack, I feel lucky. Lucky that it was mild, lucky that he’s still here.”
The timing couldn’t have been more emotional. In the past year, Jasmine has lost several close friends — including fellow A Place In The Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin, who passed away in 2024, and Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers, a dear family friend.
“Losing Jonnie was devastating,” Jasmine reflects. “He was such a light. You can’t go through something like that and not question what really matters.”
“Our Dream Became a Nightmare”
Before her new series launched, Jasmine had hinted that their renovation journey had turned into a “nightmare.” Now, the reason is heartbreakingly clear.
Between Jon’s broken leg, thrombosis, and the heart attack, everything that could go wrong — did.
“At one point, I just looked at the mess around us and thought, ‘How are we going to get through this?’” she laughs faintly. “But we did — with a lot of love, patience, and my mum’s help.”
Her mother, Vasoulla, flew from the UK to Spain to support the family when Jon fell ill.
“She was my rock,” Jasmine says. “When she arrived, I finally let go. I stopped pretending I could do everything alone.”
A New Outlook on Life
These days, Jasmine says she’s calmer, more grateful, and less of a “control freak” than before.
“You can’t control what happens — only how you respond,” she smiles. “If I’m late for the school run now, I just breathe. The old me would’ve panicked. But life’s too short.”
Despite everything, Jasmine insists she has no regrets about moving to Spain with Jon and their two children, Joy (12) and Albion (9).
“We miss our friends in the UK, but our hearts are here now,” she says. “The sunshine, the people, the slower pace — it’s healing.”
“Every Day Feels Like a Gift”
Jon is now 46, back to work, and focused on recovery. Jasmine, meanwhile, is ready to return to A Place In The Sun — not just to find dream homes, but to help others rebuild their lives too.
“Maybe I could help other families do what we did,” she says. “I love hearing people’s stories — why they take risks, why they dream big. That’s what makes it all worth it.”
Smiling, she adds quietly:
“Life is unpredictable — but if you follow your heart, even the hardest chapters can turn into something beautiful.”

From heartbreak to healing, the beloved TV presenter’s story is a powerful reminder that even under the brightest sun, storms can still pass — leaving behind a stronger, wiser heart.
