David Campbell shares emotional update on Magda Szubanski amid cancer battle
âIÂ just wanted to say thank you.â

David Campbell and his wife Lisa have shared an emotional update on beloved Australian TV personality Magda Szubanski amid her ongoing battle with cancer.
Speaking on the Stellar podcast, Something To Talk About, David and Lisa opened up on Magdaâs health.
âSheâs talked about the fact that having that outpouring of emotion and the support that sheâs felt has been instrumental in her getting through everything,â Lisa shared. âI canât speak for her own personal health, but sheâs an incredible person. And we are so, we are so fortunate to have her in our lives.â
David added, âShe laughs at everything. She laughs at us. She laughs at herself. And she made us laugh at the cancer with her. And they say laughter is the best medicine. Itâs kind of true. It does make people feel better.â
Magda has continued to share video updates throughout her journey and while undergoing treatment.
In a video message on 31 August, the Kath & Kim star gave a shoutout to a primary school student who dressed up as Sharon Strzelecki for book week.
âThis is a special shoutout to little 10-year-old Annabella Willis in Adelaide,â the comedian said in the video.
âI just want to say, darling, thank you so much for your âimpressionationâ of Sharon Strzelecki,â she continued. âIâm in here having chemo and it really cheered me up and Iâm very touched and that was a beautiful thing to do.â
The Full Frontal star is undergoing chemotherapy for stage four Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive blood cancer.
In July, she posted a video on her Instagram page showing fans the new Lego Land Rover she was sent by the company.
âHaving cancer is not all bad because look⊠Lego Land Rover! I am such an 11-year-old boy trapped in a 64-year-old lesbianâs body,â she joked in the video. âThe upside of cancer â it ainât all bad! Thank you Lego for my new Lego Land Rover Classic Defender.â
âThis will keep me busy for a bit. Tricky with chemo induced numbness in fingertips but⊠Iâve planned ahead and ordered a building kit with pliers and finger protectors!! GOOD TIMES!!! Now all I need is a Lego Queen Elizabeth II to pop in the driverâs seat.â

Fans were quick to flood the comment section with messages of support.
âThe one thing chemo hasnât taken away from you is your spirit and your sense of humour, Magda,â one person wrote. âYou rock, youâve got this x.â
âYou make us all laugh even as weâre horrified at the ordeal youâre enduring. Thank you Magda, we donât deserve you or your kindness and generosity,â said someone else.
âLove and best wishes to you. This is temporary and you will make this journey and come through it to make us laugh once again,â added a third.
In May, the Kath and Kim star announced she had been diagnosed with the rare blood cancer in a video posted to Instagram.
âHello my lovelies. So, the head is shaved in anticipation of it all falling out in a couple of weeks because I have just been diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive, very serious lymphoma,â she started the video.
âIt is one of the nasty ones, unfortunately. But the good thing is Iâm surrounded by beautiful friends and family and an incredible medical support team,â she continued. âHonestly, we have the best in the world here in Australia, particularly in Melbourne, so I feel very fortunate.â
âItâs pretty confronting. It is a full on one. But new treatments keep coming down the pipeline all the time.â

In the caption, Magda shared that the cancer was discovered because her lymph nodes were up during a routine breast cancer screening.
âIâve been feeling pretty ratshit for ages,â she said. âSo I asked for extra bloods and â voila! So the takeaway is â get tested and listen to your body!â
The comedian also told fans she would be laying low while sheâs undergoing the treatment.
âSo if you see me out and about â donât hug me, kiss me, or breathe anywhere near me! Wave enthusiastically from a safe distance and know I love you madly.â
