BUSTED’S Matt Willis took a brutal swipe at McFly’s Dougie Poynter during their huge battle of the bands tour.

The two pop-rock giants haven’t been content to let their music do the talking on the massive arena run, instead throwing in plenty of playground insults too.

While the bands might have built a fanbase from loyal youngsters, their banter live on stage is definitely more adult.

The two bassists took it in turns to roast each other at London‘s O2 arena.

Matt then brought up Dougie’s past romance with Ellie Goulding.

He said: “You know the hit song Burn by Ellie Goulding?”

Before making a sickening joke about sexually transmitted diseases.

Dougie laughed it off, before getting his own back by taking aim at Matt’s On The Mend podcast.

He said: “What’s the difference between Matt’s podcast and tonight’s show? Tonight there’s actually people listening.”

Dougie finished by accusing Matt of “miming” the bass guitar, a dagger through the heart of any serious musician.

I’m A Celeb favourite Dougie dated Ellie on-and-off for a couple of years before their 2016 split.

They remained on good terms and Dougie was even invited to Ellie’s wedding to art dealer Caspar Jopling in 2019, but he declined as he didn’t think it was right to watch his former flame say “I do”.

Speaking to The Sun at the time, Dougie explained: “I did [get an invite] but I didn’t really think it was appropriate.

“But yeah we are totally on good terms.”

Ellie, 38, divorced Caspar last year and is now dating actor Beau Minniear, 28.

Dougie, 37, has reportedly been with actress Yasmeen Scott since 2023, following a relationship with model Maddy Elmer.
