Paul, who passed away suddenly from cardiac arrhythmia in March 2023 at the age of 67, had wished to be buried alongside his former partner Brendan Murphy, who died of a brain tumour in 2005. For over two years, his resting place at St Rumwoldâs Churchyard in Bonnington remained marked only by two wooden crosses and small ornaments.
This week, Andre took to Paulâs official Instagram account to share a touching update: âAfter two and a half years since Paulâs passing and a lengthy application process, we have finally placed the final design of his headstone at his grave.â
The headstone, crafted from dark grey stone, bears both Paul and Brendanâs names â a deeply symbolic tribute to the two men whose love endured decades. Beside the grave sits a figurine of Paulâs beloved dog Buster, the faithful companion who famously appeared alongside him on The Paul OâGrady Show.
Andre added in his post, âI miss him dearly every day, but I am grateful that his resting place is now complete. I hope he would be pleased with the final design.â The headstone also features one of Paulâs favourite quotes by philosopher Michel de Montaigne: âThe greatest thing in the world is to know how to be oneâs own self.â
Fans were moved to tears. One commented, âIt just makes me weep with happiness that you included Brendan â such a beautiful and selfless gesture.â Another wrote, âItâs beautiful. I hope to visit one day.â
Andre, a former ballet dancer, continues to honour Paulâs legacy through tributes and memories. On each anniversary of his death, he reportedly watches old videos of the presenter â a small ritual to keep his husbandâs spirit alive.
