Jeremy Clarkson was unexpectedly taken to hospital earlier this month after suddenly falling âpoorlyâ with an undisclosed illness, marking another health emergency less than six months after the heart surgery that saved his life. The Clarksonâs Farm star confirmed that he was admitted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford on October 5 for what he later described as an extremely âpainfulâ form of treatment.
At 65, Jeremy has already undergone major medical interventions this year, and in a recent update he revealed he once again found himself relying on the NHS â admitting it was his âonly option.â Writing candidly in his weekly column for The Sunday Times, he recounted the ordeal with his usual blunt honesty.
âThe treatment was Defcon 1 painful,â he said. âThey pretty much had to chisel me off the ceiling with a spatula afterwards, and I ended up having to stay overnight â but it was OK in the end.â
Despite the scare, Clarkson kept the reason for his hospital visit private, adding: âIâm not telling you what was wrong, because itâs none of your business.â
Reflecting on the experience, the father-of-three praised the NHS staff who treated him. âI genuinely couldnât find anything to complain about,â he wrote. âThe doctors, the nurses, everyone I met was kind. Everything was spotless. Lunch was kidsâ food â brilliant. And they even made me better. Iâm eternally grateful.â
âDays from Deathâ â His Earlier Heart Emergency
Earlier this year, the Amazon Prime star was rushed to the emergency room after suffering clamminess, pins and needles, and severe tightness in his chest. Doctors quickly discovered the seriousness of his condition, and Clarkson underwent emergency heart surgery to have two stents fitted after vital arteries were found dangerously blocked â a crisis he admits was caused by years of poor eating habits.

According to Clarkson, doctors warned he was only âdays from death.â
âIt turns out one artery feeding my heart was completely blocked,â he told The Times. âAnd the second of the three was heading the same way.â
Since the procedure, the broadcaster has spoken openly about the unusual sensation of having the stents inserted â âodd,â he said, but thankfully ânot painful.â He has also made major lifestyle changes, even experimenting with weight-loss medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro in an effort to protect his long-term health.
