The dad desperately fought to reach the children by climbing back in through their bedroom window
A COP who lost his wife and two children in a Boxing Day house fire has paid tribute to his family as “three of the greatest humans to ever grace our presence”.
Mum Fionnghuala Shearman – known as Nu – and her two young children, Eve, seven, and Ohner, 4, tragically died after they were trapped inside the burning property.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene as the blaze consumed the Cotswold stone cottage in Stroud, Gloucestershire, at about 3am on Friday.
Dad Tom Shearman – a serving police officer – managed to escape before heartbreakingly trying to get back into the house in a bid to save his family.
But the Gloucestershire police officer was dragged away from the blaze as he desperately tried to run into the inferno.
However, fashion designer Nu, 38, remained trapped inside with young Eve and Ohner as tragedy struck over the Christmas period.
Tom, an officer with Gloucestershire Constabulary, was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.
And he has now thanked everyone who has kindly donated after the creation of a Go Fund Me page, and said he is “humbled beyond comprehension”.
Tom paid tribute to “three of the greatest humans to ever grace our presence were taken from not just me, but all of us”.
The police officer also lost his dog Hutch in the tragic fire that ripped through the family home.
