Alyssa Farah Griffin, co-host of The View, has revealed a parentâs worst nightmare: her newborn son, Justin Jr., had to undergo major surgery and spend time in the intensive care unit. The TV star opened up about the terrifying health scare during Mondayâs release of the showâs podcast, Behind the Table, but chose to keep details of the procedure private, saying it was too emotional for her to discuss.
âMy son needed a major operation. Iâm not going to get into the details because Iâll just turn into a puddle talking about it,â Griffin, 36, shared with executive producer Brian Teta.
Griffin, who welcomed her first child, Justin Griffin Jr., in February, described the agonizing weekend spent in the ICU as the most difficult experience of her life. âI felt incapacitated,â she confessed. âLast week, I was just going through the motions, praying, knowing that he had this procedure ahead of him.â
The former White House communications director admitted she kept the news to herself, confiding only in Teta and not telling her co-hosts on The View. Watching her helpless baby endure such a terrifying ordeal and entrusting him to medical professionals took all the strength she had.
Despite the immense worry, Griffin was later told by the doctor that her son was âdoing even better than expectedâ and hitting all of his milestones. âThank the Lord, it went beyond well,â she said with relief. âHeâs going to be great. Heâll never know in his life, other than us telling him, that he had to go through this.â
