The Price Is Right will debut a primetime Christmas special in Decemberthe first live show in its historic 54-year run.

“For the first time in its 54-year history on CBS, television’s longest-running game show will air live with THE PRICE IS RIGHT LIVE,” Paramount states.

“This high-stakes, must‑watch primetime Christmas television event unfolds in real time, raising the pressure with every passing second.

“Viewers gain unprecedented behind-the-scenes access alongside host Drew Carey, announcer George Gray, the models and the production team as they race to keep the show on track-resetting games, transforming the stage and beating the clock.

“Lucky contestants will ‘Come on down!’ to play fan-favorite games Plinko, Cliffhangers and Lucky Seven, before spinning The Big Wheel for a shot at a luxury showcase – all played out live.”

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach has spoken out about the exciting move.

She said that the Price Is Right producers have come to the network with “a really fun pitch that we’ve seen that really justifies it”.

She explained: “We challenged them, we really liked the idea of doing this, but how do you make it unique and specific and not feel like a taped episode?

“And they’ve got some really fun ideas that they’re going to implement to bring the audience into that live experience.

“I think the prizes are what brings people in, the joy of seeing people win.

“And at the holiday season, I can’t imagine anything more fun for everyone to witness people winning prizes live.”

Fans of the show have already began to react to the exciting news.

“Awesome!! can’t wait to see how it’s done,” penned one fan on Reddit.

“This is going to be very interesting,” said a second.

A third added: “Yes!!!! I love seeing ‘behind the scenes’ kind of stuff. The Price is Right is so perfect for this!”

While someone else penned: “I’m not sure how they’ll do this.

“All five times I attended tapings they had to redo something, which they taped during breaks for shifting sets around.

“Whether it was George needing to record new copy, or the models had to show off prizes again, or even one of the contestants had give their bid a second time for a reason I didn’t understand because I didn’t hear Drew’s explanation.

“I just can’t see them getting everything clean.”

To which someone responded with: “I think that will be part of the appeal. Anybody that likes outtakes & bloopers will enjoy it, especially since any flubs will be live & not edited out.”
