Quite a few of these actors, who played leads in his TV shows, have also been a part of his movie rosters. One of these actors is Hamish Linklater who, so far, has been a part of two Mike Flanagan creations: Midnight Mass and The Life of Chuck. Even beyond Flanagan’s creations, though, Linklater has been doing exceptionally well in the horror genre.
The actor almost seems to completely immerse himself in every character he plays, making him almost unrecognizable in nearly every show or movie he stars in. Even his most recent appearance in an original Apple TV show proved that his remarkable ability to disappear into a role remains as impressive as ever.
A close look at his future horror projects seems to further confirm he will continue to gain more prominence in the genre as more time passes.
Hamish Linklater Is Quietly Taking Over Horror With One Brilliant Performance After Another
For a long time, Hamish Linklater was best known for his roles in comedies like The New Adventures of Old Christine or indie dramas. However, his ability to play more serious and gritty characters became evident when he starred as Larue Dollard in Fargo and Clark DeBussy in Legion. After also appearing in the 2020 adaption of Stephen King’s The Stand, Linklater got a breakthrough with Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass.
While The Boys‘ spin-off, Gen V, is not a horror series, it gave Linklater another opportunity to put his ability to play questionable characters on full display. Every scene with him on the screen in Gen V season 2 is enthralling, largely because he brings the same sense of unpredictability and quiet menace that made Father Paul such a memorable figure.
Hamish Linklater continues to thrive as a powerhouse in the horror genre with his recent performance in Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay. While his appearance is rather brief in the series, and he only plays a secondary character named Richard Warren, Linklater almost always takes the center stage every time he shows up.
The actor also seems to leverage his history in the comedy genre to make Richard Warren even more engaging. One moment, he delivers lines with a disarming charm and wit that make him instantly likable. In another scene, though, he suddenly switches his tone and makes his character seem reminiscent of grim vampire characters from classic literature.
After Widow’s Bay, Hamish Linklater Is Set To Return In A Mike Flanagan Reboot
Hamish Linklater has already worked with Mike Flanagan in two major projects: Midnight Mass and The Life of Chuck. Considering how Mike Flanagan is known to have long-term collaborations with some of the best actors in his movies and shows, it should not be surprising that Linklater is set to star in another one of the director’s upcoming movies.
As reports confirm, Hamish Linklater is a part of Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist reboot. While little seems to be known about his role in the movie, he is expected to have a major part in the horror reboot. Since Hamish Linklater’s performances only seem to get better with each new show and movie, he can be expected to deliver yet another memorable turn in the franchise.
His established history in horror proves that he is the perfect fit for The Exorcist‘s horror, which makes it hard not to eagerly wait for the Mike Flanagan movie. Hopefully, The Exorcist will serve as yet another stepping stone for Hamish Linklater to land even bigger roles in horror and other genres.
