True crime fans hooked on Maternal Instinct must tune into this Netflix documentary next.
The streaming giant dropped Maternal Instinct on June 12, and it has already climbed to Number 1 on the most-watched films chart. It explores the disturbing case of Texas woman Taylor Parker.
Parker’s story starts in 2020, when she was pulled over for erratic driving and presented a valid excuse: she had just given birth.
But things took a sinister turn when she was admitted to the hospital, and healthcare workers couldn’t find any signs that she was ever pregnant. The case slowly unravelled into a gruesome murder investigation that landed Parker on death row.

The story centres on a couple, Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn, whose Californian home was invaded in the dead of night in 2015. The intruder kidnapped Huskins and left Quinn behind.
When Quinn reported the incident to the police, detectives didn’t believe his story. The case only spiralled when Huskins reappeared just over 48 hours later.
A synopsis teases: “After a home invasion and abduction, a young couple’s recounting of the events is too far-fetched for the police to believe.
“Why did the victims seem so calm? Was it all a hoax? From the filmmakers behind The Tinder Swindler, this docuseries unravels the consequences of our cultural rush to judgment, and the damage done when law enforcement decides the truth can’t possibly be true.”
Featuring interrogation footage and exclusive interviews, the series explores the couple’s fight for justice.
Originally released in 2024, the three-part show is even better than Maternal Instinct, based on viewer ratings.
IMDb users gave American Nightmare a respectable 7.5-star rating, while Maternal Instinct has bagged a marginally lower 7.4 stars. Meanwhile, American Nightmare boasts a rare 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Sharing their opinion on Rotten Tomatoes, one fan raved: “Fantastic!!! Best documentary in years.”
A second echoed the praise: “I review things, but don’t normally comment with my review. This is must-see territory. Completely enthralling.”
While a third shared their own verdict, writing: “From start to finish, I was hooked on this 3-part series. The journey you’re taken on as a viewer is captivating, as you continuously question the outcome.
“The story itself is truly a ‘nightmare’, one which you could never imagine going through yourself, yet there’s a huge amount of empathy in the last episode when the truth is revealed.”
Maternal Instinct and American Nightmare are both streaming on Netflix.
