The Legally Blonde family is coming together to pass the pink baton.
In celebration of the upcoming prequel series and the original film’s 25th anniversary, the cast of the hit 2001 comedy reunited Saturday for an immersive fan event at Manhattanâs Hall des LumiĂšres on Saturday.
The event saw Reese Witherspoon (Elle Woods herself) step out alongside Jennifer Coolidge (salon owner and trusted confidante Paulette BonafontĂ©), Selma Blair (Elle’s antagonist-turned-bestie Vivian Kensington), Ali Larter (accused murderer Brooke Taylor Windham), Matthew Davis (jerk ex boyfriend Warner Huntington III), and Victor Garber (ruthless Harvard professor Aaron Callahan).

Not only did the stars pose for photos, they also participated in a panel conversation that swung from hilarious to sentimental to downright emotional. At one point, Witherspoon was asked a question about the impact of her iconic fashionista lawyer and practically burst into tears.
“When I walked in and I saw this moment, it just felt like it was galvanizing how I felt about playing this character â Iâm gonna cry,” Witherspoon told the crowd, tearing up. “Playing this character for 25 years has been the privilege of my life.”
She continued, “People come up to me and they tell me stories about how they go to law school because of her or they named their daughter Elle or they overcame some incredible challenge in their life because she did that. She went through this experience of feeling like everybody was looking down on her or judged her, and I donât know a person on Earth who hasnât felt like an underdog in some situation.”

Witherspoon was sniffling and wiping away tears as she turned to her former costars to say, “Watching this happen is extremely emotional for me, and Iâm really just so touched that youâre all here.
Witherspoon initially brought Elle Woods to life in 2001’s Legally Blonde, which sees the sorority president attempt to win her aspiring politician ex back by following him to Harvard Law School. She reprised the role in 2003’s Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, and a third film has long been in development.
At the same time, the Oscar winner is passing the role over to a new generation. Young actress Lexi Minetree will play the future pink-loving lawyer in Elle, a prequel series that follows the titular character in 1995 as she navigates the tumultuous waters of high school in her Seattle hometown, navigating tricky friendships, forbidden romance and questionable fashion choices.
The series launches July 1 on Prime Video, and the late James Van Der Beek is set to appear posthumously in Elle as a recurring guest-star.
