MOVE OVER ‘SWEET CAROLINE’… NOEL GALLAGHER SAYS WONDERWALL HAS ALREADY STOLEN ENGLAND’S HEART CQ

NOEL Gallagher has backed The Sun’s campaign to make Wonderwall England’s World Cup anthem — declaring the post-match fan singalong with players “a magical moment”.

The Oasis great spoke for the first time of how he was moved as 20,000 fans were joined by players belting out his Britpop classic after the 4-2 Croatia triumph.

Footy-mad Manchester City fan Noel, 59, told The Sun: “Wonderwall belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players. Best of luck to everyone who’s made the trip out there.”

Captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham were among the Three Lions players who joined in the emotional singalong at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas last Wednesday.

Kane, 32, has already spoken of how the song forged a special connection with fans — and was backed by more England stars yesterday.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said: “On the pitch after the game and we were just connecting with the fans and they were singing. That was special.

“I think it’s one of them moments — just a memory now — it’s gone. You never get that moment back. Being in Dallas, singing Wonderwall. There’s nothing like that first time.”

Newcastle defender Dan Burn said: “Singing Wonderwall with the fans was an amazing moment for me.”

Celebrities have also joined the clamour for the tune to be the team’s World Cup anthem.

TV presenter Rob Rinder said: “If our boys are going to bring football home, let’s give them a song that belongs to all of us!”

Singer Olly Murs added: “The players are singing it, the fans are singing it . . . we need an official England Wonderwall video! It already feels like the soundtrack to this World Cup.”

Since the England singalong went viral, the remastered version of Wonderwall has been pulling in 1.71million streams per day on Spotify alone.

The tune was astonishingly held off the top spot in the charts in 1995 by TV duo Robson & Jerome’s double-A side single of I Believe/Up On The Roof.

Global weekly total streams across all platforms has rocketed to 12–15million and it has leapt 100 places to No 66 in the pop video streaming charts.

It also pushed the Oasis album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? to No 27 on the UK Official Albums Chart.

The England Supporters Band has added Wonderwall to its playlist for tomorrow’s game against Ghana at the Gillette Stadium in Boston and have been busy rehearsing.

Band leader John Hemmingham, 63, said: “It’s a great song — but we didn’t know it — but there’s no way we wouldn’t add it to our set list when the fans love it so much.”

England fans began arriving in Boston yesterday. Around 10,000 are expected to fly in for the Ghana game — where a win would guarantee England a spot in the knockout stages — backed by an equal number of expats flooding in from all over the US.

Local bars — including the popular Banshee and Dubliner pubs — have stocked up on beer again after 30,000 Scots quaffed around 500,000 pints during their eight-day stay in the city as they watched their first two games.
