HENRY Nowak’s killer is said to be “literally shaking with fear” behind bars after becoming a target for some of Britain’s most dangerous inmates.
Vickrum Digwa, 23, is locked up inside HMP Frankland in County Durham, the notorious high-security jail – nicknamed “Monster Mansion” – where he is being monitored over fears he could be attacked.
The prison is home to some of Britain’s most violent killers and terrorists – including Sarah Everard‘s murderer Wayne Couzens, serial killer Levi Bellfield and Lee Rigby killer Michael Adebolajo.
Digwa is said to have arrived there “terrified”, a source told the Daily Mail.
The sicko was transferred to Frankland from HMP Winchester after being jailed for life last month for murdering Southampton University student Henry Nowak.
He must serve a minimum of 21 years – though last month The Sun revealed Nowak’s killer would have his “lenient” jail sentence reviewed after the case sparked fury across the nation.
The source said: “Digwa arrived at Frankland terrified. I mean literally shaking. He was in total fear. There was none of that arrogance you saw on the police camera.
“I think he thought he wouldn’t survive the first night.”
After spending several weeks in segregation, Digwa has now been moved onto a prison wing but remains under close supervision because of the risks he faces.
The source said: “He is on a special watch list because of the recent murders in Frankland and he fits into the category of people who are at risk because of the nature of his crime and the fact that he is now a high-profile prisoner.
“There are cons in Frankland who will have a go at him, physically as well as verbally, because of who he is and so they can boast that they were the one who beat the s*** out of him.”
The insider claimed Digwa’s fearful body language has made him appear vulnerable.
Former prison governor Vanessa Frake-Harris said high-profile prisoners often become targets.
She said: “High-profile prisoners like Vickrum Digwa will always be targets. There are many in Frankland with nothing to lose but a lot of credibility to gain.
“His was a high-profile murder which angered society. This anger may well follow him into HMP Frankland.”
Jurors heard at Southampton Crown Court that Henry was walking home after a night out on December 3 last year when he crossed paths with Digwa.
The killer, carrying an eight-inch dagger around his neck, stabbed the student in the chest before inflicting four more wounds, including two to his back as Henry tried to run away.
Digwa tried to portray himself as the victim of a racist attack and failed to tell officers he had just repeatedly stabbed Henry.
Police bodycam captured the student’s final moments as he pleaded that he could not breathe.
Digwa was convicted of murder and possessing a knife in public before being jailed for life.
His mother, Kiran Kaur, was also convicted after taking the murder weapon from the scene and hiding it at the family home.
She is serving her sentence at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, where fellow inmates include Lucy Letby, Constance Marten and Sara Sharif‘s killer Beinash Batool.
She and her sicko son are separated by around 300 miles having once sharing the same Southampton home.
Under Labour’s proposed sentencing reforms, which are currently under review, Kaur could potentially be released before the end of the year after time spent on remand is taken into account.
It comes as video footage has revealed the moment murderer Vickrum Digwa told his mother to take the knife he used to kill Henry away from the crime scene.
The Crown Prosecution Service released the clip after Digwa’s mother, Kiran Kaur, was jailed last Friday for assisting an offender.
In the footage taken on Digwa’s phone, which is pointed at the ground, he can be heard speaking to Kaur in Punjabi, asking her to remove the knife.
She then took it back to the family home.
