Gogglebox favourites Dave and Shirley Griffiths, who have been fan favourites on the Channel 4 show since 2015, couldn’t hide their excitement this week after revealing some very special family news.
The Welsh couple proudly shared that their daughter Gemma had been recognised for her outstanding work with South Wales Police, receiving an official award at a ceremony.
Posting a photo of Gemma on stage with her framed certificate, Dave and Shirley wrote: “Our daughter Gemma received an award for South Wales police, so very proud of her.” In the snap, Gemma looked radiant with her red hair, glasses and smart navy blazer, smiling alongside her colleagues.
Fans were quick to flood the comments with praise, with one writing: “You both must be very proud of her.” Another added: “Beauty and brains,” while a third simply said: “Congratulations! You must all be so proud.”
The couple have been busy outside their family celebrations too, as Shirley recently reminded followers that Gogglebox has once again been nominated at the National Television Awards in the Factual Entertainment category – a title the show has already won six times. She urged viewers: “Hi everyone, hope everybody’s okay. Just to let you know, the NTAs voting is open. We’d appreciate if you vote for us. Lots of love, Shirl and Dave,” before blowing a kiss to the camera.
Despite past rumours that they were leaving the hit series, Dave and Shirley have reassured fans they are very much staying put. After being quizzed during a family trip to Dubai last year, they responded firmly: “No we are not leaving.” To the relief of their many followers, the pair also confirmed that filming for the next series of Gogglebox is about to begin.
