42 Years, Two Vogue Covers, One Musical: At 75, Twiggy still dazzles the fashion world while her husband Leigh Lawson admits the secret behind their 42-year love is simply laughter, luck, and a Jaguar ride

Twiggy proved her timeless style as she arrived at the Burberry show during London Fashion Week on Monday, looking sharp in a tailored black suit and tie. The 75-year-old model paired her crisp blazer and trousers with a white shirt and satin tie, finishing the look with sunglasses perched casually on her head as she smiled for photographers.

Her elegant outing comes just as her husband, actor and writer Leigh Lawson, 82, shared what has kept their marriage strong for more than four decades. Leigh admitted that the couple’s shared passion for work has played a big role in keeping them close. “I think it’s quite important to keep busy, I think that helps in your relationships,” he said. “We get on really well and we spend almost all of our time together.”

The couple recently celebrated the success of Close-Up, a musical based on Twiggy’s life, and Leigh has released his autobiographical poetry collection Now and Then. He said retirement isn’t something his wife is considering anytime soon. “She’s a ball of energy. In January she was offered two Vogue covers, for Portugal and Greece, and she’s just returned from appearing on Germany’s Next Top Model,” Leigh explained proudly. “She’s 75 and still being booked by Vogue—I couldn’t be prouder.”

Reflecting on their 42 years together, Leigh admitted, “I think luck plays a big part. Maybe we wouldn’t have lasted if we’d met when we were younger. You’re more ready to compromise and give compliments when you’re older. And honestly, the glue that holds us together is humour—we make each other laugh a lot.”

Their romance began in the 1980s when actor Robert Powell introduced them over dinner. Twiggy later surprised Leigh by pulling up to his home in her Jaguar and inviting him for tea. Laughing, he recalled, “She basically pulled me off the streets. Who would’ve thought she lived just around the corner?”

Looking back, Leigh said what struck him most about Twiggy wasn’t just her beauty but her kindness. “When I first met her, I thought she was such a nice lady. And after 40 years, I still feel exactly the same.”
