Singer Max George has revealed that just days before he headed off on tour with The Wanted 2.0, he was rushed to hospital and underwent scans on his heart
Max George has said he was rushed to the hospital twice in one week. The Wanted singer was due to head out on tour across America with his bandmate, Siva Kaneswaran, but had to undergo an MRI scan.
The 36-year-old has been open about his health battles over the years, having undergone surgery to have a pacemaker installed almost a year ago due to issues with his heart. Now, he says he suffered arrhythmias. An arrhythmia is an abnormal rhythm, with the heart beating too fast or too slow due to a disruption in the signals.
Taking to social media, he shared images of himself lying on a stretcher before going into an MRI machine. Max shared that his hospital admission came two days before he and Siva, who appear on stage as The Wanted 2.0, were due to start their tour across the States.
“So happened 2 days before our tour in America… And no, I didn’t go to space,” he told fans on social media. Max continued: “After being taken into A&E twice in a week due to arrhythmias, I had to have a full heart scan.
“Luckily, everything was fine and I was given the green light to get back on stage…. Just needed a few tweaks. So buzzing I was able to tour US. So many more in the diary for next year. Hopefully I won’t be doing this bushtucker trial for a while… It’s GRIM.”
His post, which has been liked over 8,000 times, was flooded with messages of support. One fan said: “Glad everything was OK and you were able to get on stage.” “You’re so strong Max keep it up proud of you always hopefully see you both very soon,” said a second.
Meanwhile, a third went on to type: “There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. You’re braver and stronger than you think Max. If anyone’s got this, it’s you. Keep being amazing and most important keep being you. Hope to see you soon.” Another penned: “Sending you so much love and light, Max, glad to hear you’re doing well, it must be so scary!! See you in June, my hometown. I cannot wait!”
Max’s girlfriend, Maisie Smith, revealed earlier this month that the singer still has hard days – despite his surgery after he “turned blue” last December. As Max’s health declined ahead of the Christmas period, he wrote a will on his iPhone.
“Yeah, it’s good. He’s getting better all the time,” Maisie told The Sun. She added: “I mean, he was well enough to do this tour, which is amazing, because obviously that’s what he wants to be doing.
“He still has hard days and better days, but he’s definitely getting stronger again, and it’s nice to see him performing.” But while Max still suffers with his health, Maisie says she’s glad she gets to see him on stage with Siva, performing their biggest hits, including All Time Low and Glad You Came.
He and Siva were forced to cancel a concert in Manchester due to his ongoing health issues, saying the rearranged date would be announced when he was feeling better.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Max said: “I thought I was on the road to recovery but when I was told I needed a second operation I was nervous, as pulling the pacemaker wires out of the heart wall risks bleeding on the heart. I didn’t have a choice, though. I had to have it done.”
