Angus T. Jones once called Two and a Half Men “filth”.

That “filth”, though, has apparently given him a staggering net worth of $20 million. Although, to look at him now, 10 years after the long-running TV sitcom ended for good, you’d never know he was sitting on such a huge fortune. These days, Angus, 32, is about as far from the archetypal glamorous Hollywood superstar as you can get.

In Two and a Half Men, Angus played Jake Harper, a boy living with his dad Alan (Jon Cryer) and womanising uncle Charlie (Charlie Sheen) in the latter’s swish Malibu beach house.

When the show started in 2003, he was a cherubic 10-year-old with a pudding bowl haircut and his mischievous character was a hit with viewers. At one point during the show’s run, he was officially the highest paid child actor in the world, earning a reported $300,000 per episode and winning awards.

But by the time the show ended in 2015, he had publicly criticised it. The issues seemed to stem from the show’s ninth series, which ran from 2011 to 2012. Almost overnight, Jake transformed from a cheeky kid to a pot-smoking stoner who shared his uncle’s somewhat loose approach to monogamy.

In 2012, speaking to a Seventh-day Adventist-sponsored radio show, he said he had found God, calling the sitcom “filth” and urging people to “stop watching” it.

He said: “A lot of people don’t like to think about how deceptive the enemy is. There’s no playing around when it comes to eternity … People will see us and be like, ‘I can be a Christian and be on a show like Two and a Half Men.’ You can’t. You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I know I can’t.”

He later issued an apology, insisting he had the “highest regard and respect” for his co-workers. He added: “I apologise if my remarks reflect me showing indifference to and disrespect of my colleagues and a lack of appreciation of the extraordinary opportunity of which I have been blessed. I never intended that.”

Angus left the show in 2014, admitting he had been a “paid hypocrite”. He later attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he did an environmental studies course. In 2016, he said he intended to return to acting, but he hasn’t appeared in anything of note since TV show Horace and Pete that year.

That year, he said: “I got pretty doomsday with my thinking for a long time, but now I’m having fun and enjoying where I’m at. I no longer feel like every step I take is on a land mine.”

Today, Angus is seemingly keen to keep out of the public eye. In 2023, he was pictured in a rare sighting getting out of a car and heading to a friend’s house in Los Angeles, California.

Sucking on a vape, he had his hood pulled up, covering his bald head, with shades and a big beard covering much of his face. He was wearing a casual University of American Samoa Law School hoody, baggy stonewash jeans and plain black trainers. He was also seen carrying a large drinks bottle and plastic bag.

In the years since the show ended, Angus has worked behind the scenes in entertainment and event production. He’s also supported the First Star Organization, which helps abused and neglected children, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Over the years, he’s been involved in the the anti-bullying alliance, Be A Star, co-founded by The Creative Coalition and WWE, using his profile to help raise awareness for young people facing adversity.
