It should be the happiest, most fulfilling year of her life, but as Gemma Collins sets out her dreams for marriage and motherhood, an expert has warned that putting it all on camera for a new reality show could put her relationship under real strain.

Last week an excited Gemma confirmed she and fiancé Rami Hawash plan to have a baby and get hitched in 2026. Ringing in the New Year, she posted on Instagram, “It was the final drink of champagne as I have a wedding to plan !! yes I’m getting married this year and YES I’m having a baby.”

The former TOWIE star, 44, has endured a long battle with infertility, but with the help of IVF finally hopes to realise her dream of becoming a mum this year. But TV psychologist Emma Kenny believes Gemma’s plans to document her journey in her new Sky show, Gemma Collins: Four Weddings And A Baby, could put pressure on her and Rami’s relationship.

“Putting a relationship under public scrutiny, especially around something as intimate as fertility, can fundamentally destabilise a couple,” warns Emma. “When private emotions become public property, partners can start to feel exposed, judged or even betrayed, particularly if one feels more comfortable sharing than the other.”

While Gemma is no stranger to sharing her more private moments on screen, Emma says that when celebrities put their relationships in the spotlight, the pressure of public scrutiny can take its toll.

“We’ve seen repeatedly how reality TV can accelerate relationship breakdowns,” Emma explains. “An obvious example is Katie Price, whose relationships were played out publicly at incredibly vulnerable moments. When cameras are present, couples often lose the ability to repair conflict privately, and resentment can quietly build behind the scenes.

“That pressure can create distance and lead to a break-up.”

Gemma and Rami first met in 2011 and first became engaged in 2013 after the businessman proposed by hiding a diamond ring in a Christmas pudding. Sadly, they split the following year, with Gemma going on to have a bumpy relationship with her TOWIE co-star James Argent.

But in January 2022, it emerged that Gemma and her ex were back on and, two years later, Rami popped the question during a luxury break in the Maldives. The GC, who last year lost an impressive 31⁄2st, was originally due to marry Rami – who she recently described as her “forever love” – in 2025, but the wedding was delayed due to multiple family illnesses.

Despite Emma’s fears over Gemma’s reality TV venture, a source close to the Essex favourite tells new magazine both she and her fiancé are strong enough to survive whatever is thrown at them.

“People worry that it’s too intrusive and might have a negative impact, but Gemma is used to it,” says our source. “Gemma has talked about having a baby for years, she so wants to be a mum and she wants the world to see that. It’s her only real wish.

“She wants to share it with everyone – the good and the bad – like she has with her whole life.”

As well as charting her pregnancy journey, our source says ambitious Gemma also believes the show could help boost her celebrity status even further. “Gemma wants to become a brand – she wants her family to be the next Beckhams,” says the source. “They [she and Rami] live for it and don’t know any different.”

News of Gemma’s upcoming reality TV project first emerged last summer when Sky Max announced they had signed her up for her own “intimate and emotional” show. A delighted Gemma – who often refers to herself as the ‘stepmother’ of Rami’s seven-year-old son Tristan – said at the time, “This really is the most important year of my life, and for the first time people will get to see the Gemma behind the GC.

“Over the next year I will be planning my wedding and beginning the steps into starting a family… I want to let the world see the real raw me sharing the most intimate and personal times in my life”.

While Emma worries that filming her pregnancy journey could be a gamble, our source says the outspoken star will have no issue in establishing barriers if she feels things are getting too personal.

“Gemma doesn’t take any prisoners,” says the source. “If she doesn’t like something during filming, they’ll know about it. She will protect herself. She surrounds herself with a protective light. She doesn’t let herself get hurt.”

However, Emma says that for Gemma – who has spoken about suffering multiple miscarriages in the past, including a tragic loss four and a half months into her pregnancy in 2016 – there is a real risk she could get hurt.

“Trying to conceive is emotionally taxing at the best of times, but doing it under the scrutiny of cameras magnifies everything,” she explains. “Gemma has lived much of her adult life with her most intimate moments played out publicly, so she’s more resilient to exposure than most – but fertility is different. Filming this journey risks amplifying anxiety, emotional highs and crushing lows in a very visceral way.”

As to how the Essex pair might weather any future storms, our source is keen to allay any fears, saying, “Gemma and Rami are very strong as a couple. They’ve broken up and got back together – they’ve been through it all. They can survive this.”
