Good Morning Britain was halted on Thursday morning as the ITV programme delivered a bombshell update on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Correspondent Nick Dixon explained that there have been several reports claiming that the late Queen Elizabeth lent the former Prince millions of pounds to pay off his sex abuse accuser, Virginia Giuffre, and stop her taking him to court.
It is claimed that the Queen contributed £7m, while Prince Philip is said to have lent him £3m from his estate, a year after his death. £1.5m was said to have come from Prince Charles. In total, he received £12m. According to reports, none of that money has been paid back by Andrew. Nick explained that the Palace is yet to respond to these claims. He added that there is much more “legal scrutiny” on the claims that have come out, stating that Andrew may have “shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein” in emails.
The ITV show confirmed that those matters are now in the hands of Thames Valley Police. In a statement, the police force said: “We can confirm today that Thames Valley Police is leading the ongoing assessment of allegations relating to misconduct in public office.
“As part of this assessment, we have engaged in discussions with Specialist Crown Prosecutors from the CPS.”
A guest on the show added: “The last thing the Royal Family want is any kind of trial. They won’t want their dirty laundry washed in public. So they are going to hope that this problem can be sorted if charges are brought.”
Nick then said: “So, it’s another day of headlines and another twist in the story for Andrew, but also more scrutiny for the Royal Family and the decisions that they have been making.”
Fans of the ITV breakfast show were left fuming over the report, with one taking to X/Twitter to rage: “The man has no shame!
