What recent change did Debbie actress Sue Devaney make?

After months of being off‑screen, Coronation Street confirmed in its February 26 episode that Audrey Roberts is on holiday, disappointing viewers who have been worried about her disappearance. The character, a staple of the show since 1979 and played by Sue Nicholls, has been a central figure in many storylines.

Coronation Street has finally confirmed where Audrey Roberts is after not being seen for months but it’s not good news.

The character, played by Sue Nicholls, is a telly legend – making her debut way back in 1979. Audrey rocked up to the cobbles as the mum of Gail (Helen Worth) – and it didn’t take Audrey long to become a firm favourite

Over the years, viewers have been through heartbreak and joy with Audrey, including her marriage to Alf Roberts (Bryan Mosley) in 1985 and his tragic death in 1999.

They’ve also watched Audrey become a great-grandmother to characters including Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) and watched her work alongside grandson David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) in Audrey’s hairdressing salon.

And like her daughter, Audrey has had a dramatic love life too on the famous street. After Alf’s death, she struck up a romance with butcher Fred Elliott (John Savident).

She also got engaged to former male escort and con man Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers). Lewis eventually changed his ways in order to marry Audrey before dying suddenly in 2019.

In recent months though, Audrey hasn’t appeared on the soap, sparking serious concern from fans. On X, one person mused: “So great to have scenes in the salon again but no Audrey?”

Another chimed in: “Where is Granny Audrey? She’s meant to live in David’s but is never seen. I’m sure she’d have plenty to say about blank-faced Jodie taking over the house.”

However, in Thursday’s episode (February 26) the soap issued a major update on Audrey’s whereabouts. During the instalment, granddaughter Sarah (Tina O’Brien) spoke to mum Gail on the phone.

Chatting to her mum, Sarah confirmed Audrey was currently on holiday, which will no doubt be bad news for fans hoping to see her soon on the long-running programme.
