Former Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley has become a grandfather for the very first time at the age of 64—and the emotional announcement has fans in awe.

The 80s pop icon took to Instagram to share his joy as daughter Toni gave birth to a baby boy on May 19. The Hadley family welcomed the newest addition—Freddie-Floyd Hadley Huntley—into the world, and Tony’s touching tribute quickly melted hearts across social media.
Posting a tender black-and-white snap of the newborn on Wednesday, the singer wrote:
“We’re so proud and happy to welcome little Freddie to the world!
He’s so gorgeous! Toni and Andy and all the family are over the moon!
Love, Papa Tone xx”

Tony, who has five children, had previously spoken about how excited he was to embrace grandfatherhood—if only to have an excuse to continue being “childlike.”

And the moment finally arrived. In a heartwarming video posted by new mum Toni, the proud grandfather is seen cradling his tiny grandson, his face filled with elation. The video documents the full day—from the time Toni entered the Labour Ward to the moment she and her partner Andy Huntley brought Freddie home for the first time.
The most touching part? A sweet scene where Tony shares a tearful embrace with Toni shortly after she gave birth.
Toni captioned the video with an emotional tribute:
“SAY HELLO TO OUR BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY – FREDDIE-FLOYD HADLEY HUNTLEY – BORN 19 MAY 2025.
No words will ever come close to the love we feel for him. He is the most precious gift and already the centre of our world.
We still find ourselves staring at you every day, in disbelief and pure gratitude that you’re ours. Freddie-Floyd, you’ve made us the happiest we’ve ever been.
You are everything. Your first week earthside has already been full of love—you’ve met your London Grandparents, your Great Nanny, Aunties and Uncle, and the world hasn’t stopped falling for you since.
Here’s to the life we always dreamed of, finally whole with you in it. We love you, little man. Always.”

The beautiful family moment comes just as Tony prepares for his upcoming European tour—a new chapter in his career after leaving Spandau Ballet back in 2017.
The iconic 80s group—which included brothers Martin and Gary Kemp, saxophonist Steve Norman, and drummer John Keeble—shot to fame with a string of UK Top 10 hits, including the timeless anthem Gold. Their music became a staple in nightclubs throughout the country.
However, behind the glittering success, tensions were brewing. Tony walked away from the band eight years ago, later revealing a turbulent relationship with his former bandmates. Speaking to The Mirror in 2023, he said:
“You could offer me all the tea in China and I wouldn’t get back with them. There’s no way.
I’m pretty easy-going—it takes a lot to get to that point, but once you’ve pushed me and crossed that line, that’s it. I’m done.”
Tony added cryptically:
“There’s a very specific reason why I left, and they’ve never been brave enough to say. But it’s not my fault. The reason I left was not my fault.”
While the Through the Barricades hitmaker has hinted that a farewell tour could one day happen, fans remain uncertain. For now, Tony’s focus seems firmly on family—and enjoying his new role as “Papa Tone.”
