This morning’s Good Morning Britain left viewers stunned and deeply concerned as Richard Madeley returned to screens nursing what appeared to be a painful injury – his hand in a visible cast that didn’t go unnoticed.

During the Monday broadcast (June 9), the veteran presenter appeared alongside Susanna Reid, as the pair tackled the usual wide range of hot topics. But Richard’s sudden appearance with a cast left fans distracted and wondering: What on earth happened over the weekend?
Richard Madeley reveals painful ‘double fracture’ live on GMB
With the white cast clearly poking out from under his sleeve, Susanna didn’t hesitate to draw attention to it. “Richard, you better explain,” she urged, prompting Richard to respond with his signature wit: “I thought you were going to ask if I had a good break!”
The 69-year-old presenter then dropped the shocking revelation – he’d suffered a double fracture to the wrist.
He went on to describe how the injury occurred on Friday while he was walking “quite quickly down a steep pavement” in France.
“It flipped up and it flipped me forward and I thought, am I going to win or will gravity win?” Richard recalled. “And gravity won – I hit the ground hard. So yeah, I’ve got a double fracture and we’ll see how it goes.”
‘We don’t think about pain,’ Richard insists
Susanna asked sympathetically if he was in pain, but Richard shrugged it off with characteristic bravado: “I’m not discussing the pain threshold – we just don’t think about pain.”
Fans joke… but they’re worried: ‘Is he turning into Keith Lemon?’ 🧐
Viewers quickly took to social media to share their thoughts – a mix of concern and light-hearted comparisons.
“Is Richard channeling his inner Keith Lemon this morning with that bandage?” one viewer quipped, referring to the comedian known for his ever-present white hand wrap.
Another asked: “What’s happened to Richard? Is he trying to be Keith Lemon?”
“That’s exactly what I thought,” a third chimed in, while a fourth questioned directly: “What’s happened to Richard’s wrist?”
‘It’s just great to have Richard back’ 👏
Despite the injury, many viewers were simply pleased to see Richard back on GMB.
“Glad Richard is back,” one Facebook user commented.
“Great to have him return – some common sense and proper interviews again,” another added.
“Nice to have Richard back,” echoed a third.
So, while questions still linger over just how bad the injury really is – and whether he’s downplaying the pain – one thing is clear: viewers missed him, and he’s not letting a double fracture slow him down anytime soon.
