TV presenter Phillip Schofield, 63, has shared an emotional update after undergoing urgent surgery to correct a debilitating eye condition that had quietly taken a toll on his life for years. The This Morning host revealed that after living with severe eye floaters that clouded his vision, he’s finally been able to look up and see a clear blue sky again — and for him, that’s nothing short of life-changing.

“If the success of my summer is to be floater-free, that’s good enough for me,” he wrote, capturing a mix of relief and quiet gratitude that resonated with fans across the country.
A Bold Step Toward Healing
Posting from his hospital bed, Phillip explained he had undergone a groundbreaking procedure known as elective limited pars plana vitrectomy, performed by leading eye specialist Professor Stanga at The Retina Clinic in London. He was quick to point out that this wasn’t a sponsored post or gifted treatment — rather, it was a personal decision to seek relief from something that had severely affected his quality of life.

“It didn’t hurt,” Phillip assured, before adding that this limited form of the surgery helps avoid the cataract risk that usually comes with a full vitrectomy.
A Moment of Clarity
With touching honesty, he described what it felt like to live with floaters:
“They’ve blighted my otherwise brilliant eyesight,” he said.
“For the first time in many years, I’m looking at a clear blue sky. It’s mood, mind, and life-changing.”
He explained that while many don’t understand the mental strain caused by severe floaters, it’s something that slowly chips away at your daily peace — and until recently, it wasn’t a condition taken seriously by many in the medical community.
Now, though, he says he’s free — even if the road to recovery includes a bloodshot eye for two weeks and an intense month-long eye drop regimen.
A Journey Years in the Making
Phillip first brought up his vision issues in 2020, during a candid moment on This Morning, describing his sight as “like a filthy bathroom window drifting across my eyes.”

After undergoing surgery on his first eye in July, the final procedure has now allowed him to see clearly from both. For Phillip, this summer feels like the beginning of a new chapter — one where he can finally take in the beauty of the world around him again.
And judging by the flood of supportive messages, fans couldn’t be happier for him.
“Your story gave me hope,” one follower wrote.
“It’s amazing what we take for granted until we lose it,” another added.
