Bake Off presenters announce ‘huge first’ in show’s 16-year history ‘never done before’
Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding shared some huge news with the latest batch of famous contestants taking part in The Great Celebrity Bake Off fir Stand Up To Cancer
The Great British Bake Off history has been made.
Five famous famous entered the tent on Sunday (April 12) for the latest episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer.
Emmett J Scanlan, Mark Wright, Nella Rose, Mutya Buena and Ralf Little all on the challenge to raise money for the good cause.
Guest judge Cherish Finden also made an appearance on the heartwarming show, alongside regulars Paul Hollywood, Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.
After three challenges, Paul and Cherish couldn’t decide one winner and hosts Alison and Noel announced the experts had decided to award two celebrities with the iconic Star Baker aprons.
Former TOWIE star Mark Wright and Sugababes singer Mutya were both crowned winners in a show first.
Judge Paul pointed out that it had “never been done before” and it was the first time in the show’s 16-year history that two bakers had won the top prize at the same time.
The contestants’ first challenge was to make pull-apart savoury rolls, followed by vegan fruit tarts, and a revealing challenge to bake a cake inspired by their most extravagant purchase to date.
But it wasn’t the food that caught viewers’ attention as fans gathered to voice complaints about the cast’s kitchen hygiene.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one viewer pointed out that the bakers didn’t tie their hair or wear hair nets.
They wrote: “Is there no hygiene standards on #GBBO,” with another agreeing: “Why has no one told them to tie their hair back?”
Someone else chimed in, seemingly calling out YouTuber Nella and Sugababes singer Mutya’s long acrylic nails. “How can they do anything with those nails,” said one.
While a fellow Channel 4 viewer said: “The nails make me feel sick.”
Despite sparking online debate, this episode’s cast has also received overwhelming praise.
Before the instalment aired, Channel 4 shared a collection of comments from viewers, with many gushing about seeing these famous faces back on their screens.
One viewer gushed: “Nella AND Alison Hammond in the same space? OH YOU LOVE US,” while a second raved: “Mutya was on celebrity MasterChef so she can cook – good line-up this year.”
A third said: “Omg can’t wait, Sugababe in the kitchen!”
Last week saw former EastEnders actress and Strictly Come Dancing winner Rose Ayling-Ellis crowned Star Baker after beating out strong competition, setting the bar high for the next group of contestants.
