Eamonn Holmes breaks silence days after suffering stroke as he shares update
GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has spoken for the first time following his health scare after suffering a stroke and being rushed to hospital
Eamonn Holmes has spoken for the first time since suffering a stroke. The TV host, 66, was rushed to hospital on Tuesday. He is still recovering, but has now broke his silence on his health scare.
He took to Instagram to post a message to say his grandchildren had sent him a get well soon message. The snap showed his granddaughters holding a message that read “get well soom”.
And the presenter acknowledged the spelling mistake in his post. “Got this first thing this morning, from my two lovely granddaughters,” he wrote. “So now doing my best to get well SOOM!!”
His followers were quick to share their well wises. One user told the star: “Get Well Soon…my Husband had a stroke over a year ago…he’s back to work and enjoying life again, with a few little changes, but we will take that. Speedy recovery.”
Another added: “Eamonn … The little things like this mean the most in life .. get your self well soom as the gorgeous girls say.” And a third wrote: “Eamonn, Your lovely granddaughters, with their get well messages, will give you strength to aid your recovery x”
Eamonn’s update comes shortly after his son had shared an update to say his dad was responding well to treatment. Son Declan Holmes, 37, spoke out on behalf of the family.
He thanked well-wishers and offeried reassurance about his dad’s condition. In a statement, the broadcaster’s son said: “I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family.
“What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing OK given the circumstances and we’re taking it one step at a time. For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.”
He added: “We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.”
GB News had confirmed Holmes had suffered a stroke on Saturday. The organisation said the star is currently being treated in hospital.
The broadcaster said in a statement: “Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.”
His co-host, Ellie Costello, said after the news: “Thinking of you Eamonn and wishing you a speedy recovery.” And Alex Armstrong, who will step in to present in Eamonn’s absence, said: “Thinking of you Eamonn Holmes. Such a shock to all of us. You’re sorely missed. Get better soon.”
Eamonn had initially been set to return to GB News Breakfast next week for his show that he presents with Ellie Costello. The pair take the reins weekly from Monday to Wednesday, but Alex will now stand in for the veteran presenter.
Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of GB News spoke out after Eamonn’s condition was made public. He said: “Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.”
Posting to Instagram on Friday night, Eamonn’s partner, Katie Alexander, reflected on her week without mentioning Eamonn’s condition. She wrote in her update: “What a week. Prayer, a little visit to church to have a word with the good Lord himself, prayer each day.” The comments came a day before news of Eamonn’s condition was released.
Eamonn and Katie began dating shortly after his split from his estranged wife, Ruth Langsford. The pair, who were married for 14 years, split in 2024 and are currently in the process of divorcing. It’s believed that Ruth is being kept updated on her ex’s condition via their son Jack.
