I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here hosts Ant & Dec are bringing back their 2002 hit We’re On The Ball. Originally written and recorded for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the lads are planning on re-working the football tune in time for this year’s World Cup to include current England players.
The twosome originally reached No15 with the jingle, but have previously topped the charts in 2013 Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble.
They’ve joked that they will favour players from Newcastle such as Lewis Hall, Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon – All who have so far been included in the England squad for friendly games and could feature in the line-up when the World Cup kicks off in June across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Speaking on their podcast Hanging Out With Ant & Dec, Declan Donnelly, 50, said: “We should update it for the World Cup this Summer.”
Excited by the idea, Anthony McPartlin, 50, replied: “Yeah, put new lyrics in there, new players in there.”
Dec agreed: “Yeah put new players in there”, Ant then laughed: “Just Newcastle players” To which Dec responded: “Yeah could do. There’s enough of them in the squad.
“Yeah let’s do that! Maybe we will do that”, Dec exclaimed.
The boys are hoping that the England team will be more supportive this time around as in 2002 all players refused to get involved with the single.
Dec recalled: “Let me tell you about the video shoot, they said, ‘We’re taking you up to Leeds because England are playing a friendly up in Leeds and all the squad are there so you’re going to make the video and you’ve got all the squad’.
“So went up and saw the squad from about 300 meters away and never met any of them, didn’t get time with any of them.”
Ant added: “Not one of them wanted to be in the video.”
