British Family Heartbroken After Caribbean Holiday Tragedy

A British family is mourning the loss of Daniel Vettrino, 37, from Dysart in Fife, Scotland, after he died while in the Caribbean island nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

According to local police, officers were called to the Gym Hill area of Canouan late on Wednesday night. Daniel was found with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead by a medical officer. Authorities have said an investigation is ongoing, and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place.

Daniel’s family have described themselves as heartbroken. In a tribute shared online, his brother Robson Vettrino Kolberg remembered him as a “pure soul” who wanted happiness and success for the people around him.

He said Daniel had touched many lives, from his hometown in Fife to places around the world. The tribute also remembered his personality, humour and the qualities that made him special to those who knew him.

The family said they are grateful for the support they have already received and are now working to bring Daniel home. They said funeral arrangements and a chance for people to say their final goodbyes will be shared once that process is complete.

Local reports suggest the incident happened after Daniel had returned from a day trip. Police in St Vincent and the Grenadines have said inquiries are continuing.

Daniel had lived and worked in several countries before moving to the Grenadines. He previously spent time in Egypt and Colombia before taking up a role as Technical Service Manager at Canouan Estate Resort and Villas in 2024.

A UK Foreign Office spokesperson said support is being provided to the family of a British national who died in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and that officials are in contact with local authorities.

While many details are still being investigated, the focus for those closest to Daniel remains on grief, remembrance and bringing him back home with dignity.
