Brooke Shields is the latest actress with a romantic past with John F. Kennedy Jr. to react to Love Story.

Unlike Daryl Hannah, Shields was not actually portrayed on the FX series about JFK Jr. (Paul Kelly) and Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon), but she was name-checked as a former love interest of JFK Jr.

“I [was] mentioned, so that was a little weird because I was away, and my daughter called me, and she goes, ‘Oh my God, you’re mentioned in Love Story. Is it true?” Shields told PEOPLE. “I’m their mother, so it’s easier to make fun of me, or say, ‘Ugh, Mom, okay, fine. We get it. You were big in the ’80s and ’90s.’ Because otherwise, then I’m sort of property of everybody else.”

It is true that JFK Jr. and Shields had a brief rendezvous in the late ’80s. In a recent TikTok, her daughter, Rowan Henchy, appeared on the screen along with the text, “I wonder if JFK Jr. was a good kisser,” and then Shields joined in, as well as the words, “One of the best.”

In 2023, Shields revealed the details of her and JFK Jr.’s 1980s encounter in Aspen, Colo. The Blue Lagoon star was “so madly in love” with the heartthrob since she was a child, to the point that, “My mom would say, ‘That’s the boy you’re going to marry.'”

When they took a break from the Aspen slopes, the two went to a pub together with some of the Kennedys, before he asked if she wanted to leave with him. “And I was like, ‘Uh, yeah, I do want to get out of here, John Kennedy,'” she said. They went back to his hotel and shared “the best kiss I’ve ever had in my life.”

“I wouldn’t sleep with him because I kind of loved him too much,” she recalled. “I froze, though, because it was so precious to me. And I was like, ‘Oh my God, you’re falling in love, and if you sleep with him, he may not talk to you again, and you can’t handle that.'”

It wasn’t a happy ending, with Shields sharing that she saw him the next day, but he didn’t acknowledge her. “He showed his true colors,” she declared.

Fellow ’80s icon Daryl Hannah dated JFK. Jr, and was portrayed on Love Story by actress Dree Hemingway. Hannah penned a scathing essay about being positioned as an “adversary” to the romance between her ex-boyfriend and his eventual wife, Bessette.

“The actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue,” Hannah wrote in the New York Times. “Many people believe what they see on TV and do not distinguish between dramatization and documented fact — and the impact is not abstract.
