The actor was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in June 2021 and has publicly spoken about her health struggles.

Christina Applegate is recovering following reports of her being hospitalized.
The 54-year-old actor, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in June 2021, shared a statement on Instagram amid her ongoing health struggles.
âThank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes,â she wrote April 20. âHealth issues are a constant for me, but Iâm a strong chick and Iâm getting stronger and better every day.â
She added, âIâm taking a moment to focus on my health, but Iâll be back with more to say soon enough.â
The post included a photo of a mug that read âKissy Kissyâ and her recently published memoir, âYou With the Sad Eyes,â which details her battle with MS and other challenges she has overcome during her career.
Celebrity friends left supportive messages in the comments.
Actor Cheyenne Jackson said, âChristina, just in case todayâs mail got lost: We the public would like to formally submit that we adore you, support you, and RIDE AT DAWN FOR YOU ALWAYS.â
âDays of Our Livesâ star Greg Rikaart wrote, âCanât think of anyone the collective culture roots for more than you.â
Olivia Munn simply left multiple red hearts in the comments.
Applegateâs health update comes after TMZ first reported on April 16 that the âMarried with Childrenâ star was taken to the hospital in late March.
Her rep told NBC News in a statement April 16, âI have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. Sheâs had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.â
Applegate publicly revealed she was diagnosed with MS in August 2021 while working on her Netflix series âDead To Me.â
âHi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. Itâs been a strange journey,â she wrote on X at the time. âBut I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. Itâs been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some asshole blocks it.â
Since then, she has repeatedly spoken about how the disease, which disrupts communication between the brain and rest of the body according to Mayo Clinic, affects her day-to-day life.
In âYou With the Sad Eyes,â Applegate said that she has to go to the emergency room frequently.
âWhen I wake up, I often canât get my arm to move far enough to grab the cup of water by my bed or my phone from its charger,â she said, before adding that she is prone to infection and the disease affects her stomach, too.
âI start vomiting, almost like my body is trying to stop the noise, too,â Applegate wrote. âThen I end up in the hospital again. I just want everything to stop. But it wonât stop.â
While speaking about the memoir with the Los Angeles Times, the actor said it is important that those with MS share their experiences.
âWe need a community. We need a bunch of us talking to each other â caretakers and children of people with MS and all this stuff. I just want to have a kumbaya with everybody right now because thereâs so much sadness with this disease,â she explained.
Applegate also co-hosts a podcast called âMeSsyâ with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has also been diagnosed with MS.
During a March 2025 episode of the podcast, Applegate confirmed that since her diagnosis she has âbeen in the hospital upwards of 30 times.â
