Coronation Street Daniel actor’s love life including current romance with co-star
As an unlikely romance heats up for Coronation Street’s Daniel Osbourne, it’s fair to say actor Rob Mallard has had a wild love life too
Coronation Street’s Rob Mallard is a soap favourite but the actor’s love life has almost been just as wild as his on-screen storylines.
Rob made his debut on the ITV show in 2016, taking on the role of Daniel Osbourne, the son of legend Ken Barlow (William Roache).
And over the years, the character has had his fair share of romances on the cobbles. Currently, he is smitten with secret predator Megan (Beth Nixon), who is grooming youngster Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale).
In Friday’s episode (December 4) after getting a job at Weatherfield High, Megan and Daniel kissed for the first time, with Daniel making it clear he wanted to be more than friends.
However, away from the cobbles, Daniel actor Rob has had an interesting love life too – including a ‘hard’ split from a cobbles legend.
Rob’s romance with Coronation Street legend
Rob publicly came out as gay in a 2017 interview with Gay Times. He had previously come out to his family at the age of 17 and stated that he “never planned to keep [his sexuality] quiet.
After landing a role on the ITV soap in 2016, the star began a romance with fellow actor Daniel Brocklebank, who has portrayed Weatherfield vicar Billy Mayhew since 2014.
The pair went public with their relationship when Rob scooped up a British Soap Award for Best Newcomer in 2017, where he gushed in his speech, where he lovingly said: “Even though this is fantastic, Dan, you’re the best thing I’ve ever taken home.”
Why did Rob and Daniel split?
However, just a few months later, Rob and Daniel ended their relationship, blaming the pressures of working together and being a couple.
A source told The Sun in July 2017: “It was a lot of pressure for both of them to be working on the same show and going out in the end something had to give. They decided to part ways a couple of weeks ago but they’re still great friends and hope to remain that way.”
Rob subsequently dated Ben Perryman, but they broke up in 2019 after six months. Rob’s spokesperson told The Sun: “Rob and Ben are no longer together. It was a mutual separation. Both would appreciate privacy in this personal matter.’
Rob’s new romance
Fast forward to June 2023, and Rob went public with his new man Matthew Martin at the British Soap Awards. The actor shared a photo of the pair posing on the red carpet and captioned the post: “British soap awards 2023 with @mattmarcm,” with a heart emoji.
Matthew is also an actor, and this year, he even appeared on Coronation Street, playing a police officer who arrested Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) at the end of a dramatic episode.
Matthew took to Instagram at the time in February to gush about his appearance in Weatherfield. He shared a snap on Instagram as he posed alongside his boyfriend Rob.
He said: “Ey mam! I’m on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer. All thanks to @mossy737 for giving me the opportunity to work on the iconic show that is @coronationstreet and of course my lad @rob.mallard for being the biggest support and showing me the ropes.”
