The late actor first became a dad in March 2010 when he welcomed his first child, daughter Billie Beatrice Dane, with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart. Their family expanded in December 2011 with the birth of their second daughter, Georgia Geraldine Dane.

“I never had a family, and now I do,” Eric told PEOPLE of his daughters. “I know I’m a very lucky guy.”

Eric and Gayheart eventually split in 2018, and the actress filed for divorce from her longtime partner that same year, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple amicably co-parented for seven years before Gayheart requested to dismiss her divorce from Eric in March 2025.

Ahead of her birth, the couple revealed they were starting a family in September 2009. The Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood actress showed off her baby bump during a stroll, and a source told PEOPLE they were “definitely happy” to be pregnant because they’d “been trying for so long.”

When it came to supporting her dad, Billie and her sister have watched “every episode” of Grey’s Anatomy, in which the actor starred from season 3 to 9. “They’ve watched everything,” he said on Live with Kelly and Mark in 2024, adding that they’ll “never” stream Euphoria.

Billie graduated from middle school in June 2024, and her mom celebrated the milestone with a sweet post on Instagram.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gayheart shared a glimpse into her daughter’s mindset at the start of lockdown.

“She is the only one in the family who is thriving and not just surviving,” the actress wrote on Instagram in April 2020. “She loves being home and finds the joy in most everything she does . I’m so thankful for this kid 🥳💙.”

In an August 2024 interview with Variety, Eric said that Georgia had an important question for him once she’d had the chance to watch her dad in Grey’s Anatomy.

“My 12-year-old, when she started watching it a couple of years ago looked at me and said, ‘Dad, where did your abs go?’ She was serious. She wasn’t making a joke,” he said.
