Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has spoken about what it was like learning that the ITV soap’s bosses wanted to write his character Billy Mayhew out after being part of the cast since 2014.
Speaking to The Mirror, the actor recalled being called into the production office in June and being told the news.
“They said it was purely storyline-based, as is so often the case,” he said. “It felt absolutely right, so I was philosophical about it. It is just a job at the end of the day and there’s no character bigger than the show.
“We only get a contract for a year at a time and I don’t think anybody in their right mind would expect to be there for life, because I think you’re possibly setting yourself up for a fall.
“Shows evolve and new producers want to bring in new characters and exit characters that they feel have had their time; that’s the nature of it.”
