DAVID Haye stunned his fellow campmates on I’m A Celebrity with a string of remarks about “ugly birds”.
Ex-Corrie star Beverley Callard hit out at the former heavyweight boxer’s “sexism” after a rant during the all-stars’ series from South Africa..
During a camp chat, the 45-year-old Londoner said his girlfriend Sian Osborne — who was part of his so-called “throuple” with pop star Una Healy — had “the personality of a proper ugly bird”.
When Scarlett Moffatt asked what he meant, he explained: “Most ugly girls realise they’re not pretty enough… they’ve got to have a personality to banter and tell jokes to overlook that they’re not aesthetically amazing straight away.
“It’s called ‘ugly duckling syndrome’,” he continued. “They get prettier as they get older but they’ve still got the personality of when they were younger.
“You get a girl who was pretty from day one, everyone tells her she’s amazing, so she grows up thinking ‘I’m amazing, everyone loves me, I can open up any door, I can go anywhere I want’.
“They don’t have to have a personality, because most super-pretty girls are idiots.
He furhter explained: “Their ugly friend has to work a bit harder, they need to be more personable, be more nicer to everyone, ‘can I get you a drink? Can I do this?’”
His comments led to disbelief in camp, with ex-Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts shaking her head.
Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, former Gogglebox star Scarlett said it was not the first time some of Haye’s comments have “gone down like a lead balloon”.
Bev added: “I’ve never heard anything so sexist in my life. Where is this coming from?”
Haye carried on, saying: “Growing up in the West End where they don’t let ugly girls into the club, they only let pretty girls in, and the pretty girls go, ‘Oh sorry about that’ and they leave their ugly friends behind.
“I’ve seen it with my own eyes, it’s horrible and I feel for these poor girls – she’s the one normally driving as well. Proper p***-take.”
Scarlett quipped back: “You’re almost saying ugly people can’t be d***heads?”
To which Haye replied: “They can be but they won’t get no love at all. I’m digging myself something here.”
He then turned conversation back to his girlfriend Sian who he deemed “has everything”, adding: “I’d be with her even if she didn’t look how she looked.”
Scarlett chipped in sarcastically: “Well, it sounds like he’s hit the jackpot there.”
Before Bev added: “He has hit the jackpot, but his partner has got the booby prize.”
Co-host Declan Donnelly later said Haye’s views on women were “quite extraordinary.”
He was previously slammed by viewers for making digs about Gemma Collins’ weight.
