David Haye to ‘sue ITV for up to £10million’ over I’m A Celeb edit ‘causing damage’

David Haye is planning to sue ITV for up to £10 million, according to claims. The former boxer has reportedly instructed a legal team and claims the edit of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa has caused “irreparable damage to his brand”.
It’s claimed that Haye’s lawyers have sent a letter to ITV, which airs the programme, demanding an investigation into how the final edit was decided. Although the I’m A Celeb spin-off is pre-recorded, the 45-year-old came under fire after making a string of sexist comments.
During one scene, he also branded co-star and series winner Adam Thomas “useless” after the Waterloo Road actor explained he wasn’t well enough to take part in a trial. Adam battles psoriatic arthritis, which causes joint inflammation and stiffness. When this was explained, Haye stated he didn’t “give a s**t”.
He also made sexist comments, leaving his campmates stunned. Telling his campmates about his girlfriend Sian, who works as a model, he said: “She’s like tall, blue eyes. She’s lovely. She’s got the personality of a proper ugly bird.” He added that “ugly girls” need to have “a personality and banter,” to overlook “the fact that they’re not aesthetically amazing”.
“David is absolutely gung-ho about all of this — he is incandescent with rage about how the whole series has been handled and feels he’s being made a scapegoat by ITV,” a source told The Sun.
The source went on to claim that Haye believes he was deliberately edited to appear aggressive. The source went on to claim that David is “none of those” and has now been subjected to trolling since the show was broadcast nationwide.
One example is a comment that fat-shamed Gemma Collins. The reality star told her campmates that her hair was thick, to which David replied: “It definitely ain’t thin.” He reportedly believes that this was “clever editing”. The source added that his legal team will be sifting through the entire series to find more examples.
“He is going for damages as a result of the ‘propaganda’ aired against him to recover lost earnings, which lawyers believe could total up to £10million,” the source claimed. It’s claimed that talks David was having with Netflix about a show and other brand deals have been halted in light of the scandal surrounding him.
Haye isn’t the only person speaking to a legal firm. Former footballer Jimmy Bullard is also said to be considering taking legal action against the show and believes he was “sitched up” by ITV during the final edit, claiming that during his feud with Adam Thomas, ITV never aired Adam branding Jimmy a “c***.” Host Ant McPartlin later stated on air that this scene was not suitable for broadcasting.
“He wanted everyone to see the shocking unedited version of the fight,” a source previously claimed. The source claims that Bullard was “hugely disappointed” with hosts Ant and Dec. They added that Gemma also disappointed him for siding with Adam – despite not being present during their initial clash.
“He is talking to lawyers and looking into his ITV contract to see what grounds there are to sue,” the source added.
The Mirror has approached representatives for Haye and ITV for comment.
