Laura Whitmore has given birth to her second child as she detailed the “dramatic” birth.
The journalist and husband Iain Stirling are celebrating the arrival of their baby, joking “a new player has entered the game”. The pair are already proud parents to Stevie, who they welcomed in March 2021.
Taking to social media, Laura announced the happy news and said: “We welcomed the most precious baby last month, unexpectedly early and with dramatic flair (wouldn’t expect anything else).
“I had made a 5 hour birthing playlist this time.. only played about 3 songs – ended up using it post birth. It’s a reaaally good playlist, can somebody please use it. Been enjoying baby smells, lack of sleep and scrumptious hands and wrists.”
Iain also posted on his social media about the baby’s arrival, adding: “Say hello to our newest living legend. I always wanted someone in the house who would stay up late and watch the World Cup with me. But this feels a little excessive.”
Laura had hidden her pregnancy for months, announcing the happy news in February. As part of her announcement, she posted a number of photos of her hiding her baby bump, and captioned it: “Instagram V Reality – Spoiler: It wasn’t just a big meal mama ate. She’s been cooking away! I’d like to thank stretchy pants and travel sick bags.”
The TV presenter said being pregnant had made her feel confident about her body.
“The best I’ve ever felt about my body was when I was pregnant. I think it’s the best I’ve ever looked and weirdly the most confident, maybe because I knew what my body was doing was pretty incredible,” she explained.
“What I found difficult was the chatter around my body, people congratulating me on looking well but saying that the fact I was still dressing up to film was not how I should be behaving… as though I should be at home hiding away.”
Laura admitted she had not been as kind to her body after she gave birth, but after checking in with herself, she realised that she needed to prioritise herself and her body too.
“I think you spend the whole pregnancy counting down until you give birth, you kind of forget the big job is what comes after. I chose to breastfeed exclusively; everything was about my baby – I didn’t really think about my body as something for me so when I did get it back, I made a conscious decision to be as kind to it then as I was when I was pregnant,” she said.
