We neednât turn to Lady Whistledownâs Society Papers for the lowdown on Bridgerton Season 4 â read everything you need to know about the new season right here. Once youâre finished with Part 1, now streaming on Netflix, prepare for the series to come back when Part 2 drops on Feb. 26. The teaser, seen above, reveals thereâs lots of steam ahead for leads Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).
In the first episode of Season 4, Benedict meets his captivating romantic interest at his mother Violetâs (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball. This introduction sets Benedict off on a search through the ton for his âLady in Silverâ â but heâs looking in the wrong place. His mystery lady is Sophie, a hardworking maid who comes back into his orbit in a most unexpected moment. As the end of Part 1 reveals, Benedict and Sophie see the world very differently.
âBenedict lives in a fantasy world. Sophie lives in a hard reality,â showrunner Jess Brownell says. âYou have two characters who are at opposite ends of a pole, and rather than either of them needing to get all the way to the other side, they both need to travel to the middle. Between fantasy and reality, true love lies in the middle â neither one creates the circumstances for romance to bloom. You have to embrace a little bit of both.â

Who is Bridgerton Season 4 about?
Season 4 turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict. Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down. That is, until an enthralling woman captures Benedictâs attention at the masquerade ball. While Benedict knows his love interest as only the Lady in Silver, sheâs actually Sophie, a resourceful maid with her own secrets and dreams. Dive deep into how the crafts team pulled off the masquerade celebration on Tudum.
With the reluctant help of his sister Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Benedict sets out in society to uncover the young ladyâs identity. But in fact, his heartâs desire is not in society at all â she is a resourceful maid named Sophie, working for the formidable Lady of the house, Araminta Gun (Katie Leung).
When fate brings Benedict and Sophie back together, Benedict wrestles between the reality of his affection for this intriguing maid and the fantasy of the Lady in Silver â unaware that they are the same person. Will Benedictâs inability to see these women as one and the same derail the undeniable spark between him and Sophie? And can love truly conquer anything?
Thompson canât wait for fans to enjoy the fairy taleâinspired story. âYou remember being told those stories as a child â the magic and the romance of them. Itâs really exciting to have that woven into the world that we know of Bridgerton,â the actor says. âItâs such a great story, but itâs also, I hope, really relatable.â
One person already feels a deep connection to Bridgerton Season 4: Ha. While auditioning, she immediately enjoyed the âfun, play-like qualityâ she saw in the scripts. âWhat drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles â something that she constantly has to overcome,â Ha says. âWhether itâs this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.â

When does Bridgerton Season 4, Part 2 come out?
Find out how Benedict and Sophieâs story ends when Bridgerton Season 4, Part 2 releases on Netflix on Feb. 26 at 12 a.m. PT. In the meantime, fall deeper in love with Benedict and Sophie in the steamy teaser above.
What is Bridgerton Season 4 based on?
The new episodes are inspired by the third book in Julia Quinnâs Bridgerton series, An Offer from a Gentleman. âItâs always really nice to get inside the authorâs head to see how they pictured a certain character or events that trigger certain emotions,â says Ha. âIn the book, Sophie has a sassiness to her, but thereâs also a vulnerable side and a fragility. I tried hard to bring that into the series.â
âSophie in Season 4 is very similar to the Sophie in Julia Quinnâs book,â says Brownell. âSophie is not a normal damsel in distress in the book, nor is she in our season. Sheâs resourceful and resilient. Sheâs a chess player, sheâs a survivalist. Sometimes, that works against her because itâs hard to get out of survival mode and allow herself to embrace love or playfulness or lightness or joy. Fortunately, those are things Benedict Bridgerton is very good at.â
How did Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha build the showâs central relationship?
âWhatâs striking about Season 4,â Thompson tells Tudum, âis that itâs the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale â the romance of it â and the actual reality of the world.â Season 4 pulls back the curtain of the over-the-top households of the ton, and introduces some of the people who keep these aristocratic clans running. âBoth are true,â Thompson continues. âYou have to hold both of them â the romance and the reality â in your hand. In its best version, âtrue loveâ happens in the middle of that.â
Series newcomer Ha enjoyed the âplayful, freeing, therapeuticâ feeling of preparing for filming alongside Thompson. The pair first met during a dinner at showrunner Brownellâs home. âI remember Luke stood there with arms wide open, just ready for an embrace,â Ha tells Tudum. âThat was the moment I was like, âAh, OK, I donât need to stress about these little things now. I can just genuinely focus on the onscreen connection with him.â â
Sometimes building Benedict and Sophieâs romance involved what Ha describes as âspecial and very vulnerableâ rehearsals. Other times, it extended to dance training that âfeels like a part of the charactersâ journey,â Thompson says. Especially because, as he explains, âI get really excited by how many unexpected twists youâll get in Season 4.â

Who are the new characters in Bridgerton Season 4?
As with previous seasons, there are some new characters spinning around the Bridgerton ballroom:
- Lady Araminta Gun, played by Katie Leung. Twice-married and twice-widowed, Araminta has two daughters debuting on the marriage mart this season, and sheâs feeling the pressure to get at least one of her girls married off. Fabulous, discerning, and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything â or anyone â threatens her standing in society.
- Rosamund Li, played by Michelle Mao. Beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother, Rosamund is Aramintaâs eldest daughter and most prized possession. Rosamund sets her sights on Benedict this social season. And, just like her mother, Rosamund is determined to get what she wants.
- Posy Li, played by Isabella Wei. Rosamundâs younger, kinder sister is also debuting this year. But Araminta rarely puts the spotlight on her second child. Posyâs chatty, overly friendly demeanor often has her putting her foot in her mouth.
âWhile Rosamund has become her motherâs mini-me â a marriage mart pro chess player â Posy is dreamy and often unserious, much to her motherâs disapproval,â says showrunner Brownell. âAraminta and Rosamund are so focused on their own goals that, frankly, the Bridgertons donât register much for them at first, beyond the fact that Benedict proves to be quite the catch this season.â
And, although they arenât new arrivals in Mayfair, beloved Bridgerton characters Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi) and  Brimsley (Hugh Sachs) step up as part of Season 4âs main cast.
