Sara Cox has admitted that she “can’t wait” as she’s part of the BBC coverage for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Austria.

The BBC confirmed that Sara Cox will be joining forces with Rylan Clark and Graham Norton for the 70th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest.

This year, the final will be held in Vienna, Austria after Austrian entry JJ won in 2025 with his song Wasted Love. Look Mum No Computer is this year’s UK entry with his synth and anthemic song Eins, Zwei, Drei.

Speaking ahead of his performance during the second semi-final on Thursday May 14, Sara said: “I can’t wait to see Look Mum No Computer up on the stage performing Eins, Zwei, Drei. It’s such a lively song. I hope there’s complete chaos on the stage, but more than anything I hope he just really enjoys his moment and gives it some proper welly.”

She said: “I think what’s important for all the artists taking to the stage to remember is that it is fun. It is not brain surgery; it is a fun, joyous celebration of music and togetherness. I really hope they can just try and enjoy it and just go for it.”

A total of 35 countries will compete during the live semi-finals with the top 10 countries from each competition going through to the Eurovision Grand Final on Saturday May 16.

As one of the pre-qualified “big four” countries – along with Germany, France and Italy – the UK has a guaranteed place in the grand final, as does Austria as the reigning Eurovision champions and host.

She also praised Eurovision for being the most “beautiful, inclusive and fun show” ever. Sara added: “I think the Eurovision Song Contest is the must watch or listen event of the year.

“However, this year is the 70th birthday so I think it’s going to be super special and the thing that I love about it the most is that you never know what you’re going to get. Expect the unexpected, and I think it’s just the most beautiful, inclusive and fun show
 ever!”

Sara is thought to have replaced Scott Mills who was a key part of the BBC‘s Eurovision coverage for 15 years, starting in 2011 and continuing through the 2025 contest.

He was renowned for commentating on the semi-finals on BBC One and later covering the Grand Final. However, he will not be part of the coverage this year after he was sacked by the BBC shortly before it emerged the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation into him in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offences involving a teenage boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000.

The BBC has admitted it knew about a police investigation into allegations of a historical sexual offence in 2017 but said it “acted decisively” after receiving “new information” in the weeks before his sacking.

Days after the news was confirmed, Mills released a statement through his lawyers saying he had been the subject of “rumour and speculation” since he was fired, and that he “co-operated fully” with the police investigation into allegations of a historical sexual offence.

Bolton’s Sara Cox will also replace him on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, as well as Eurovision for the 2026 coverage. The BBC have now confirmed that viewers can look forward to a “treasure trove of brilliant content”.
