Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Bridgerton Season 4, Part
1.Some Bridgerton fans have had the same complaint for all four seasons of the show, yet Season 4 has once again reinforced that this complaint is completely unwarranted and unnecessary. As with all previous seasons of the show, Bridgerton Season 4 focuses on one of the Bridgerton siblings specifically (although multiple stories are told alongside this main narrative).
This season, the sibling who is in the spotlight is Benedict Bridgerton, the second-born sibling, although four of his siblings (Daphne, Anthony, Colin, and Francesca) have gotten married ahead of him. However, as Season 4 is Benedict’s season, that may be about to change with the appearance of Sophie Baek.
Bridgerton Receives Backlash For Casting BIPOC Actors Every Season
In the book on which Bridgerton Season 4 is based, An Offer from a Gentleman, Sophie Baek is instead named Sophie Beckett. Although the narrative details (at least, in terms of what has been shown so far in Season 4, Part 1) remain largely the same, in the book, Sophie is described as a white blonde woman, whereas in the show, she is portrayed by Korean Australian actress Yerin Ha.
When the news of Ha’s casting was announced, there was a wave of online backlash regarding the change to the book character’s ethnicity, which is something that has become all too common with responses to Bridgerton cast members. The same was true of the casting for Anthony’s wife, Kate, who is played by Simone Ashley.
Yerin Ha Is The Perfect Sophie In Bridgerton Season 4
Although there are four more episodes of Season 4 yet to come out, it’s already clear that Ha is absolutely brilliant in the role of Sophie. Despite being a brand-new character in a cast of many pre-established, already beloved characters, Ha’s Sophie is a true standout, and she’s quickly become a fan favorite.
