But he has opened up on a scary moment which saw him rushed to hospital whilst competing in a half marathon.

Speaking in a video from his hospital bed, James said: “So, my half marathon didn’t quite go to plan as you can probably tell.

“I am hooked up [to a drip], I’m in hospital, I’ve been here for about eight hours and I’m having to stay the night.

“I collapsed about 50 or 100 yards – but I’m not sure, I don’t remember anything.

“It was near the finish line, I had exhaustion, I had a temperature of 107.”

James went on to praise a quick-thinking friend who “saved his life” by picking him up and jumping over the rails to get to him.

He added further in his written caption: “I had a temperature of 107 so was in an ice bath for 20 mins to cool down which I don’t remember either.

“Then taken to hospital as I’ve got rhabdo (when muscle tissue breaks down so aggressively it releases proteins into the blood stream which can overwhelm the kidneys) but I am in great hands with the medical team here who are honestly incredible and I’m incredibly grateful for.”

He went on to add: “Thankful to be alive, and I think for the foreseeable I’ll take a break from racing and get stuck into some yoga.”

Reacting in the comments, one of his fans said: “So glad you’re okay James!! How scary.”

As another added: “Heal up James! Glad you’re ok!”

Before a third wrote: “Speedy recovery! Scary experience and glad to see you are ok.”
