Donald Trump doesn’t want to hear a word about the 2020 election unless it’s on his own terms.

The president, 79, proved as much during a recent Meet the Press interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker that saw him storm off after getting confronted on election conspiracies.

During the lengthy conversation, which aired Sunday, Trump repeated his claim that the 2020 election results were “rigged,” arguing that it is “happening again right now” in California’s gubernatorial primary.

“You’ve never presented evidence that the 2020 election was rigged,” Welker pushed back.

In 2020, Biden defeated Trump, winning 306 Electoral College votes and 51.3% of the popular vote to Trump’s 232 electoral votes and 46.8% of the popular vote. Trump, who was re-elected to office in 2024, has long insisted that the results from his loss were false.

When Welker asked directly for Trump to provide evidence of his long-repeated claim, he replied, “All I have to do is look.”

“But that’s not evidence,” she countered.

The tense back and forth continued from there, with Trump appearing visibly agitated as Welker continued asking for evidence of his claims.

“Do you think it’s appropriate that they have an election and five days later, they’re nowhere close to picking a winner?” the president argued. “They’re crooked just like you’re crooked, your press is crooked. And Meet the Press is crooked.”

Welker denied the personal attack, replying, “I’m not crooked,” to which Trump answered, “You’re either crooked or you’re stupid.”

Welker then made an effort to move the conversation forward, attempting to redirect Trump’s attention towards Acting United Stated Attorney general Todd Blanche, but the president remained fixated on the subject of the U.S. elections.

“You play right into their hands with this stuff,” he continued, “You know that these elections are rigged. Your network knows that they’re rigged. Do you know that I won an election in a landslide and I got 94% bad press.”

He added, “You know why I got that? Because you have no credibility. Your elections are crooked and you’re crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked. And so is ABC and CBS and CNN. You’re a one-sided crooked network.”

Ignoring Welker’s continued efforts to redirect the conversation, Trump reached to remove his mic, telling her, “Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time.”

When Welker insisted that she had traveled a long way for the interview and pleaded with him to continue their conversation, Trump replied, “I sat in the rain with you for an hour. On and off in the rain, and I’ve given you enough time. You ought to straighten out your press, because you know what? A country can never be great with a dishonest press.”

He then stood up and walked off-camera.
