Jane McDonald Opens Up On Love, Loss And A Brave New Chapter After Eddie Rothe

Jane McDonald has always been loved by viewers for her warmth, humour and down-to-earth personality. But away from the cameras, the singer and TV favourite has also faced a deeply emotional chapter in her personal life.

The 62-year-old was engaged to musician Eddie Rothe, who sadly died in 2021 following a lung cancer diagnosis. Eddie was 67, and his loss left Jane facing a future very different from the one they had once imagined together.

Their relationship had a long and touching history. Jane first met Eddie when she was a teenager, and although life took them in different directions for many years, they later found their way back to each other. The couple rekindled their romance and became engaged in 2008.

Jane has since spoken openly about grief, explaining that it is something that remains with you, even as life continues. Rather than pretending the pain has disappeared, she has been honest about learning to carry it while still moving forward.

When asked about the possibility of finding love again, Jane has said she would “never say never,” while also making it clear that she feels grateful for the love she shared with Eddie. For now, she appears focused on friendship, independence and enjoying the support of the people closest to her.

One major change in Jane’s life has been selling the home that had once been planned as her forever home with Eddie. The decision was understandably emotional, but she has since downsized and is now living with her close friend Sue Ravey, who appeared alongside her on Celebrity Gogglebox.

Jane has also reflected on the unexpected sense of freedom that can come after loss. While adjusting to life on her own was difficult, she has said she is now learning to embrace the ability to make choices for herself and shape her days in a new way.

Professionally, Jane is also stepping into another exciting chapter. Her upcoming two-part Channel 5 series, Jane McDonald’s Nashville, is set to air in 2026 and will see her explore the heart of country music, including some of the city’s most famous locations and traditions.

Five years after Eddie’s passing, Jane’s life may not look exactly as she once expected. But with friendship, courage and her unmistakable spirit, she continues to show that love can remain part of your story while you gently begin a new one.
