Jesy Nelson issues emotional update about her twins after devastating diagnosis
Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has shared her latest update regarding her twin daughters following their spinal muscular Atrophy Type 1 diagnosis
Jesy Nelson continues to keep fans updated on her twins’ progression following their devastating diagnosis. Twin daughters Ocean and Story were diagnosed with spinal muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1), a rare condition affecting the muscles.
And as the former Little Mix star, 34, helps her tots, she has shared a sweet update with her followers on Instagram. Jesy shared a clip of her feeding her kids. And it was the first time she had done so in their chairs.
It was a proud moment for the star who was seen feeding the tots some fruit puree. And she added a welling up emoji face to her post to mark the occasion.
In the clip, Jesy can be heard speaking gently to daughter Ocean, saying: “Excuse me, you’re supposed to eat it, not spit it out. Story was then seen enjoying the meal and cooing at her mum.
It’s the latest milestone for the youngsters, with Jesy previously gushing over their first words. Last month, the star revealed: “Story said Muma for the first time my life is complete.”
The Instagram story video showed her baby saying “Muma” while lying under a blanket at looking up at her mother. In January, Jesy revealed the devastating news that doctor’s had said her daughter’s may never be able to walk due to their rare genetic condition.
She said: “We were told they were never going to be able to walk. They would probably never regain their neck strength. They will be disabled. The best thing we can do right now is to get them treatment and hope for the best.
“Thankfully the girls have had their treatment which I’m so grateful for. If they didn’t have it they would die.”
And in March, she confirmed the girls had to wear splints due to their health issues. She said at the time: “So today, I had to go pick up the girls’ splints today because their feet are pointing, and they need to be flattened out.
“It made me really sad. Have you ever seen anything cuter in your life? Made me sad though, because it’s just another reminder.”
At present, there is no cure for SMA1. There are treatments, though, that can help people have the best possible quality of life.
Jesy welcomed her twins last May with her former musician fiancé Zion Foster. The pair have since split. Jesy had revealed she had a tough pregnancy and since her daughters’ diagnosis, she has been campaigning for the NHS to introduce testing on newborns for SMA1.
She explained that because they were diagnosed at a later stage, her daughters may now be unable to walk. The tots require round-the-clock care.
