Jesy Nelson has revealed her twin girls have been diagnosed with a severe genetic condition and may never be able to walk

Jesy Nelson has shared a heartbreaking photo of her eight month old twins smiling with breathing tubes as she shared the reality of the day to day life.

The Little Mix star said she has become a ‘nurse’ to girls Ocean and Story as she revealed they have been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy.

Jesy, 34, said she had undergone ‘the most gruelling three or four months’ of her life after her girls were given the devastating health news. The genetic neuromuscular disease causes progressive muscle weakness and wasting due to motor neuron loss. In a tearful Instagram video, the singer said the condition ‘affects every muscle in the body down to legs, arms, breathing and swallowing’ and said she’s been told her daughters may never be able to walk.

The star said she has become a ‘nurse’ to the girls and said she was doing things ‘no mother should have to do’ such as helping them rely on breathing machines.

After sharing her video, her partner Zion shared a brand new photo of the girls, telling followers they were ‘smiling through the challenges.’ “Daddy loves you so much,” added the musician.

On Sunday, Jesy told fans: :After the most gruelling three, four months and endless appointments the girls have now been diagnosed with a severe muscular disease – SMA Type 1.

“Once the girls got treated, it was a very rapid process because time is of the essence with this disease’ Jesy said of the twins’ treatment plan from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, adding that there is no cure for SMA.

She said the girls had undergone urgent treatment, “Which ‘I am so grateful for because without it they will die.

‘It has just been endless hospital appointments, I feel like the hospital has become my second home and I feel like I have had to become a nurse because I have to put them on breathing machines and do stuff that no mother should have to do with their child.”

Jesy broke down as she admitted: “The last few months have been the most heartbreaking time of my life. I literally feel like my whole life has done a 360. I almost feel like I am grieving a life I thought I was going to have with my children.

“I truly believe my girls will defy all the odds with the right help and do things that have never been done.”

The singer experienced a series of complications during her pregnancy, including twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which she documented on social media.

According to the NHS, TTTS affects 10 to 15% of identical twins who share a placenta and “can have serious consequences”.

Jesy underwent the emergency procedure and spent 10 weeks in hospital before giving birth to the twins prematurely at 31 weeks on May 15.
