Kevin Costner Honors “Wonderful” Dances With Wolves Co-Star Graham Greene

Graham Greene’s co-star on Dances With Wolves, Kevin Costner, has called him a “master at work” since his death.

Earlier this week, it was sadly confirmed that the Canadian actor had passed away aged 73 following a long illness. His agent said in a statement: “He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed. You are finally free.”

Greene started performing in theatrical plays in the 1970s, but as a First Nations actor, he had few popular parts until 1990, when he was given the chance to co-star in Dances With Wolves, which completely changed his career.

His performance earned him a nomination in the Academy Awards’ “Best Supporting Actor” category. He later starred in films including The Green Mile, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Thunderheart.

Now, Costner has taken to Instagram to share a poignant scene between their characters in Dances With Wolves, which remains close to his heart. “A few things come to mind when I think of Graham Greene and our time together on Dances With Wolves,” he began.

ostner continued, “I think of how willing he was to learn the Lakota language. I think of my joy when I heard that his work on the film was recognized with an Academy Awards nomination. And I think of this scene in particular, when he was able to establish so much about the relationship between Dunbar and the natives with so few words. He was a master at work and a wonderful human being.”

The Hollywood star poignantly concluded, “I’m grateful to have been witness to this part of his lasting legacy. Rest in peace, Graham.”
