Within just a few weeks, Kris Marshall is set to grace screens once more as DI Humphrey Goodman in Shipton Abbott, tackling the endless stream of crime in Beyond Paradise’s festive special.

After May’s finale, the police team will reunite when they discover that another criminal has escaped, this time with a Christmas-themed element.

This development won’t shock devoted viewers who regularly watch the quirky yet razor-sharp detective tackle fresh cases, as this represents just another in his long list of cracked mysteries.

Prior to relocating to the tranquil village, Humphrey successfully unravelled crimes in the original programme, Death in Paradise, where he collaborated with Caribbean police on the island of Saint Marie.

During his tenure there, the detective consistently managed to connect the dots, maintaining a flawless record of case closures, reports the Express.

Despite his remarkable success rate, Marshall has disclosed his desire to witness his character stumble and break his perfect crime-solving streak.

The performer shared insights about Humphrey during Tuesday’s guest spot on ITV’s This Morning, appearing alongside co-star Sally Bretton.

Chatting with presenters Ben Shephard and Alison Hammond, Kris explored his character and Martha’s contrasting personalities, noting: “They’re brilliant in their own lives.

“He’s got a 100% clean-up rate on any crime he’s got involved in, which is quite a number.”

After Ben agreed: “That is epic,” the actor confessed: “I’d quite like to see an episode where he doesn’t solve the crime.”

As Sally yelled: “No!” Alison enthusiastically added: “I don’t think that’s ever happened; the fans wouldn’t like it.”

Kris quipped: “Just an episode where he goes ‘sorry guys, I can’t get this one,’ as he continued: ” before continuing: “Sally’s character is an amazing chef and entrepreneur, and yet together they just seem to sort of not get stuff done, they’re quite quirky like that.”

Regarding the forthcoming special, the synopsis reveals: “When Esther discovers a man on the steps of the Shipton Abbott police station with no memory, holding a photo of Humphrey, the team gets to work to uncover who the mysterious man is while balancing a flurry of festive cases.

“But with an influx of unexpected visitors, a slew of holiday crimes to crack, and a heartwarming reunion on the line, can the team juggle it all and still be ready for a life-changing reveal?”.

“Meanwhile, with assistance from Anne, Zoe and a special guest, Martha scrambles to execute her secret plan whilst Kelby attempts to help a mystery man stuck inside his snowman costume.
