The comedian and Kennedy were once so close that David introduced him to his wife, Cheryl Hines.

Larry David just took a swipe at former friend Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on his new show.

The comedian’s sketch comedy Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America, which debuted on HBO last month, features David as the mother of Jonas Salk, the man credited with the first safe and effective vaccine against polio.

A character called “Bobby,” with a tan and a gravelly voice, argues that the vaccine will “kill people” and “give them heart attacks!”

David’s character then barks, “Drop dead, Bobby. You should die a dog’s death. You don’t know anything about science, you’re not a doctor.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to both David and Kennedy for comment.

Kennedy has, of course, been the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since he was narrowly confirmed by the Senate in February 2025. The Trump appointee was a controversial choice because of his past skeptical views of vaccines.

He and David, a Trump critic, were once so close that the Seinfeld creator introduced Kennedy to his wife, Cheryl Hines.

David and Hines, who married Kennedy in 2014, costarred on HBO’s long-running comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm. She played his wife.

Hines has said in the past that she believes the two aren’t as close because of politics. In December, she told News Nation, “I think he’s mad Bobby’s in the administration.”

Rosie O’Donnell told Variety just this week that she thinks it’s “wild” David played matchmaker with Kennedy and Hines.

“I’m sure it’s a moment he regrets,” O’Donnell said.

Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness airs Fridays on HBO.
