The hitmaker won the British talent show, X Factor, back in 2006 and catapulted to fame.
She has taken inspiration from the events that have happened in her life since then – including her marriage to Dennis Jauch and the birth of their daughter – to create her Vegas show.
Leona told The Sun: ‘It has been 20 years since I stepped on the scene with X Factor, and a lot has happened in my life.
‘This is not just a show. This is me sharing what I’ve been through, How I started, why I wrote certain songs, why I performed certain songs. It’s the culmination of my life’s work in music.’
Leona said that she feels both ‘proud and privileged’ to follow in the footsteps of other big acts from the UK who have had residences in Vegas, including Adele and Elton John.
Touching on her working-class upbringing, she said it’s a ‘big deal’ for someone born in Hackney to get to perform in Vegas.
She stressed that it means a lot not just to her, but to her ‘family and community’.
Leona said that Adele, in particular, inspired her residency, as she loved the intimate moments when the singer shared her own life experiences.
The singer also opened up about her ongoing relationship with Simon Cowell, who mentored her to success on the X Factor.
She said: ‘When I told him about Vegas he was so supportive. He has always had my back from day one on the show and he still does now.’
Leona said that if she ever needs support, she knows that she can reach out to Simon, who she described as ‘great’.
