A MAJOR UK motorway has ground to a halt after a multi-vehicle collision, sparking rush hour chaos.
Lanes 3 and 4 are closed on the anti-clockwise M25 in Hertfordshire this morning between J17, Rickmansworth, and J16, M40.
Drivers have been warned to expect delays of up to 90 minutes as recovery vehicles and emergency services work at the chaotic scene.
It remains unclear if any serious injuries were caused in the horror crash.
Huge queues of traffic have built up as rush hour commuters struggle to make their way to work with two of four lanes shut.
There is an estimated nine miles of traffic on the busy motorway as drivers face down severe delays.
Work is underway to clear the collision and open the two closed lanes with recovery vehicles scrambled to the scene.
National Highways said: “Lanes 3 and 4 (of 4) remain closed on the M25 anti-clockwise between J17 Rickmansworth and J16 M40 due to a multi-vehicle collision.
“Delays have now exceeded 90 minutes on approach.
“Please allow plenty of journey time if possible.”
