Louisiana couple has been hit with murder charges after allegedly inflicting “unimaginable abuse” on their two-month-old daughter, resulting in her death from internal bleeding caused by a severed lower spine.

The suspects, 18-year-old Taylor Daniel Broussard and 20-year-old Kaylee Fontenot, are facing first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery charges. The Opelousas Police Department (OPD) responded to a medical emergency at a home on the 200 block of North Liberty Street around 8:09 p.m. on October 25.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the baby girl “not breathing” and immediately began lifesaving measures, according to the department’s press release. Emergency medical teams arrived moments later and transported the infant to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It comes after another tragedy as a family portrait exposes a sick secret before dad killed all 7 in a massacre.

An autopsy showed that the baby had “suffered severe neglect and physical abuse,” OPD stated.

‘Extreme dehydration and malnourishment’

Detectives discovered evidence of “extreme dehydration and malnourishment” alongside internal bleeding from a severed lower spine. The infant also sustained multiple fractured ribs, some showing signs of healing – clear evidence of ongoing abuse.

Authorities emphasized that the child had been exclusively under the care of Fontenot and Broussard since birth. Last Friday, investigators from OPD’s Special Operations Division took Fontenot into custody after warrants were issued for both parents.

Police initially sought public assistance to locate Boussard.

On Monday, OPD announced that Broussard had turned himself in.

Both parents were booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail, and it’s unclear when they’re due in court.

“Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse,” stated OPD Chief Graig LeBlanc.

He added: “This case is in its early stages, and our investigators are working tirelessly to uncover every detail. We ask the public for patience, cooperation, and assistance in helping us pursue justice.”
