Marlo Thomas made a rare public appearance for a Broadway show.

The philanthropist and actress stepped out on Tuesday night with Candice Bergen and Diane Sawyer to catch the play Every Brilliant Thing, starring Mariska Hargitay, at the Hudson Theatre in New York City.

The trio posed on the red carpet ahead of the Tony Award-nominated show, reuniting Sawyer and Thomas, who linked up for a selfie with Amy Schumer in early 2026. Schumer, who shared the selfie on her Instagram Stories, captioned the picture “trouble makers,” Parade reported.

Thomas has made rare appearances out since her husband of 44 years, the daytime talk show host Phil Donahue, died in August 2024 following a long illness. The couple met in 1977 when she appeared as a guest on his eponymous talk show and wed three years later.

After his death, Thomas announced she was taking a break from social media “to take care of myself and the many people who took care of Phil, and held him close to their hearts.”

“But I didn’t want to disappear without saying thank you for the beautiful messages of love and support that have been coming in all day, and for the wonderful and generous way that you’ve let Phil and me share our life adventure with you over the years,” she wrote at the time, sharing a picture of the couple aboard a scooter on vacation.

“As a man who spent his career loving his audiences, Phil got such a kick out of our cozy little community here, and I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing,” she continued.

“Until I return, I wish you good health and happy days in the company of family and friends, and I hope that you will continue to hold close those you cherish most, just as I was blessed to do with my beloved Phillip,” concluded Thomas. As of publishing, she has yet to share an update on Instagram.

In 2023, Thomas told PEOPLE what the secret to her decades-long marriage with Donahue was. “I call it the three L’s. Love, listening, and lust,” she said at the Women in Media Foundation’s 48th Annual Gracie Awards Gala.

“Those are the three L’s. You have to listen and then you’ll know what the other person is really thinking and going through. You have to love each other. And without lust, you don’t have anything,” she shared.
